My Fear of Vulnerability
Looking back, I used to think perfection was the key to success in the audition room. I wanted to show up polished and as the "perfect" version of myself (hello 2012 jewel tones and character shoes!). But what I didn’t realize then was how much I was holding back. Vulnerability, authenticity—that’s what resonates with people. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that being real is way more powerful than being perfect. Dare to Fail
We just watched the top athletes in the world—absolute masters of their craft—make mistake after mistake during the Olympics this summer. And these are the people who are at the absolute top of their field, right? 🙌 So why do we, as performers, worry about looking foolish in front of a teacher or in an audition room? If we’re always worried about appearing perfect, we’ll never be able to learn, explore, and ultimately master our craft. What if the willingness to try something new, even if we fail, is the key to unlocking something great in our art? Maybe just the idea and the willingness to try something new is a good place to start. The first episode of season 3 is out now! Find the Broadway Vocal Coach Podcast on Apple Podcasts 💜or Spotify 💚

Actors: How do you receive notes?
Understanding and integrating notes is all part of the process! Actors may feel the need to rush to respond, but it’s important to take a moment to make sure you fully understand the direction. In a lesson or class, this is your chance to clarify and ask questions. In a rehearsal setting, different etiquette might apply but there are still ways to be efficient AND receptive, and integrate the note with more success! What are your thoughts?
