You hear the same word over and over but can’t figure out how it’s spelled or what it means. You try to spell it out to look it up or record it to write it down but it just doesn’t compute 😭 This happened to me on countless occasions when I was learning French. “En tout cas” was one of these words for me. I was actually already pretty good at French and was helping my prof with some linguistic research on French spoken in Québec. The folks kept saying “en tout cas” and I had no idea what it meant or that it was three words and not just one mysterious sound 🤪 Has this ever happened to you? What was the word or words for you?
