I have heard some people say when they put them in before the peony begins to grow. It allows the peony to grow straight up from the very beginning. I really just love them when I need them, and the fact that I can then remove them and use them in other places in the garden.

Plus, I love that. They are a little bit shorter because you don’t see them at all, they blend into the garden.
