44K views · 902 reactions | Rope leaves | I used nautical rope from the Dollar Tree to create the prettiest fall leaves and they turned out awesome! I really hope you like them too and create a... | By D & L Create | Hi, everyone. It's Lynn D and L Create and today, I'm going to show you some leaves that I made out of rope. So, the first thing I did was take this nautical rope from Dollar Tree and I unraveled it and I'm not going to show you me unraveling the whole thing. I already did a bunch of it. I just wanted to show you that once you do that, it kind of is in four different strands. So, what I did was I took a comb and I just combed it all out just to separate those the the strands that are within four strands. And once I did get it combed out I cut it into pieces. Next I took a wooden dowel and I added some hot glue to it. And then I took those strands. I just took a bunch of them. I kind of bent them in half and I glued them flat onto the dowel. And then I did add glue over the top of it as well. Just to get any strands that maybe didn't get pressed down into the glue on the dowel. And I just kept doing this until I got it to the size I wanted my leaf to be. And then I took some more glue and I went right down the center and I added a piece of twine. And after I cut off the excess twine I gave it another good combing just to separate the strands a little bit more. And you're probably going to find that you have some that maybe didn't stick. You can just pull those out. And then I cut it. I cut it into the shape of a leaf. But then I didn't think it was thick enough. There was a couple of spaces that I could see through. So I just flipped it over and I added some more to the back. And then I added another piece of twine down the center of the back of it. And then I trimmed it up to make it even with the front. And that did make a huge difference. It looks so much better. And then I just cut the rest of the dowel off and sanded that edge just a little bit. And I did make of these. And it didn't bother me at all that one was bigger than the other one. I think they turned out really great. Now you could leave these natural but I wanted to give them a little bit of color. So I took this I kind of mixed up a paint with orange and brown and a little bit of terracotta color to get kind of a dark orange. And I didn't paint every single strand. I kind of just went over the top. And then I did fill in all along the sides of it. And I painted the second one red and these are just acrylic paints that I used on these. In fact, this red color is the red oxide I think it's called from Dollar Tree. Okay, so while the leaves are drying, I decided to create a frame to display them on. So, I just took a piece of cardboard and covered it with burlap and then I glued sticks on all four sides to create a frame and this was just a quick way I thought of to display them I mean the main objective of this video was to show you how to create the leaves for you to do whatever you want with them. You could leave them on the dowels to make an arrangement with them or you could make a whole bunch of them and make an adorable leafy garland with them. I just wanted to give you a quick idea to show how I displayed them. And then I decided I wanted to add some words. So I took this transfer from the Dollar Tree and I cut out the words thankful and blessed. And I transferred them onto a piece of drop cloth. And then I just glued my leaf to the middle of the frame and I put my little sign right below it. And then the last thing I did was flip them over and glue a piece of twine to the back for a hanger. And then I did distress the wording just a little bit with some Waverly Antique wax. But I absolutely love the way that these turned out. They're like basic and simple but so pretty. And I hope I inspire you to create some. So don't forget, bounce our page around. Thanks for watching everyone. Have a great day and we'll see you next time. Bye bye.
