Celia Birtwell

Decorated the fabric used by her husband Clark. Her stylised, sometimes psychedelic, florals with striped borders were also used for flowing fabrics resurrected from the 1930's, such as crepe & satin. Her lavish 2-dimensional style suited the fantastical & semi-historical fashion of the late 60's-early 70's, part of the print explosion. Bohemian mixture of Indian & traditional English, wealthy, young Chelsea society, exploring the trail to Goa, inheriting the English countryside.
