Citizen satisfaction with investments has not been examined so far and, consequently, it is unknown whether the implemented policies are correct. Due to its ability to reveal weaknesses that affect satisfaction, satisfaction analysis may serve as a policy decision making tool, while a higher level of citizen satisfaction may build trustful relationships between citizens and governments and enhance citizen acceptance of renewable energy development plans. EPE is generally defined as a continuous internal process and management tool that using indicators evaluates the environmental management system of an organization and compares past and present performance. Relevant international standards such as ISO 1403114032 describe the categories of performance indicators; however they do not determine a specific framework for the development, measurement and evaluation of these indicators. The main aim of this study is to present an EPE methodology based on the fuzzy UTASTAR method. Fuzzy UTASTAR is an extension of the well-known UTASTAR method capable to handle both ordinary (crisp) and fuzzy evaluation data. To demonstrate the application of the methodology, a case study is presented, where fuzzy UTASTAR is used in the frame of the EPE of a mills industry.

However, the research on better tools continues to evolve, utilizing new methodologies from various scientific fields of management science and computer science. This chapter deals with the development of statistical and artificial intelligence methodologies for predicting failures for small and medium-sized enterprises, considering financial and macroeconomic data. Empirical results are presented for a large sample of European firms.

The role of transportation in the economic process is central. Transportation’s benefits, however... more The role of transportation in the economic process is central. Transportation’s benefits, however, can be dampened because of its environmental and social cost. A central question then arises as to the degre of sustainability of a national transportation system. In the present paper we develop a mathematical model to define and assess national transportation sustainability. The model relies on a number of indicators encompassing environmental impact, efficiency, safety, and economic contributions. Statistical data manipulations and fuzzy multistage reasoning result in an overall sustainability index over [0, 1]. A sensitivity analysis uncovers those indicators with the highest potential for improving transportation sustainability. Thirty European countries are ranked and the most important indicators for each country are pinpointed. The Kano model is one of the most widely used approaches in analyzing customer satisfaction, aiming to categorize the quality attributes of products/services in different quality dimensions. The main aim of this chapter is to analyze customer satisfaction from an agro-tourism farm and prioritize potential improvement actions. The preliminary analysis has identified a large set of customer satisfaction criteria that refer to the location, the personnel, the activities, the cost, and the “green” aspects of the agro-tourism farm. Innovation-driven entrepreneurship has become a focus for economic development and received incre... more Innovation-driven entrepreneurship has become a focus for economic development and received increasing attention from policy makers and academics over the last decades. While consensus has been reached that context matters for innovation and entrepreneurship, little evidence and decision support exists for policy makers to effectively shape the environment for growth-oriented companies. We present the entrepreneurial ecosystem concept as a complex systems-based approach to the study of innovation-driven entrepreneurial economies. The concept, in combination with novel data sources, offers new opportunities for research and policy, but also comes with new challenges. The aim of this paper is to take stock of the literature and build bridges for more transdisciplinary research. First, we review emergent trends in ecosystem research and provide a typology of four overarching problems based on current limitations. These problems connect operational research scholars to the context and represent focal points for their contributions. Second, we review the operational research literature and provide an overview of how these problems have been addressed and outline opportunities for future research, both for the specific problems as well as cross-cutting themes. Operational research has been invaluable in supporting decision-makers facing complex problems in several fields. This paper provides a conceptual and methodological agenda to increase its contribution to the study and governance of entrepreneurial ecosystems

Online ratings and reviews are currently considered as extremely effective tools for tourism prof... more Online ratings and reviews are currently considered as extremely effective tools for tourism professionals. Current research reveals that they affect, like no advertisement does, guests' vacation decisions. In this paper we build on existing large scale-survey on customers' ratings to explore the determinants of tourists' satisfaction in different hotel categories. The application of the MUSA method to online reviews has resulted in valuable conclusions regarding the quality of provided services, the identification of factors that influence customers' satisfaction, and the prioritisation of improvement that can improve customers' satisfaction levels. Data are taken from the popular hotel booking website Hotels.com and the case study examines available hotels in Chania, Greece. The final recommendations have been mainly based on the estimated global and partial value functions, the criteria weights, and the average satisfaction, demanding, and improvement indices, as provided by the MUSA method.
