That’s basically it. There really is no conversation because first you try and open the door. If someone is in there, it’s more likely that the door is locked. Most times they will either say “busy” or not respond at all.

I tend to use restroom when I am in a public place, as it only has toilets and sinks. And then I use bathroom when I am asking about where the bathroom is in someone's house because it will tend to have a shower/bath in it. But I still use either one in both contexts. Restroom is just a polite way to say "place where the toilet is".
