A: "Aspiration" is when a word is pronounced with a lot of air coming out of the mouth. When you say "pop", more air comes out of the mouth than "bob" because "p" is more aspirated in English.

A: They are sort of the same, yes. They can't stand alone though. They both need helping words, as in your example.

"Let's take it up to 50." -- your English sounds good here and makes sense.

"Pick up the pace!" -- also sounds good and makes sense (note PACE, not peace).

The same words on their own, though, mean different things. "Pick up" usually means to grab something with your hands and lift it. "Take it up" usually means to set off on some kind of new project or work, to begin a thing, to get started.

"I pick up stones in my garden."

"Did you know he plays guitar? He took it up last year as a hobby."

But again, in your particular examples, those phrases do mean what you want them to mean.
