Wazi Apoh
Prof. Wazi Apoh is an archaeologist with a broad anthropological training. He has a B.A and M.Phil degrees in archaeology from the University of Ghana and a doctoral degree in Anthropology from Binghamton University of New York, USA. His specialty is in the fields of cultural heritage management, contract/salvage archaeology, German colonial archaeology and development anthropology. He was the Head of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, University of Ghana from 2016 to 2018. He is involved in a number of research projects. Notably, he directed a senior postdoctoral project on the Archaeology of German colonial sites in Ghana and Togo funded by the Volkswagen Stiftung Knowledge for Tomorrow – Cooperative Research Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. He also consults for the German Historical Museum in Berlin, the State Museum of Hannover and the Ho regional Museum in Ghana on the traces of the German colonial past in Ghana and ‘Togoland’. Prior to his coming to Ghana in 2009, he taught for a couple of years as a Frederick Douglass Teaching Scholar at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. In addition to participating in international conferences and teaching undergrads and graduate students in his field, he also lectures and conducts cultural orientation workshops for visiting international scholars and students in Ghana. He is a prolific writer with a number of books and scholarly articles to his credit.
