Are you really doomed in an interview process if the company have an internal candidate?? For sure, there are cases where this has been true. It COULD be that: ♦️ The internal is a ‘sure thing’ and the company are benchmarking them against and/or required (sometimes by law) to have considered external applicants ♦️ The company will ultimately take the ‘safest’ option; the internal is a known entity and already onboarded BUT it could also be: ♦️ Company policy that any internal applicants are interviewed ♦️ The hiring manager is obliged to interview someone due to ‘politics’ but they a) already know the candidate (they will be far more familiar with their strengths AND weaknesses!) and b) have already drawn conclusions on their suitability ♦️ The internal candidate is also following ‘politics’ and may not actually want the job! ♦️ The internal candidate could be the one being used as the ‘benchmark’ ♦️ The company actively want to hire externally to bring in a fresh perspective & experience MOSTLY the process isn’t weighted one way or the other. Companies maintain a fair recruitment process; all candidates are treated equally regardless of whether they are internal or external. Sure, an internal candidate is a risk to your success in securing the role, but not necessarily any more so than another external applicant. Our advice: you do you. Put your best foot forward and don’t worry about others. Hopefully, you are the ‘chosen one’ this time.
