There are many ways to transition from regular to one arm pull ups. I personally find shoulder width band assisted one arm pull up to replicate the full movement the most.

Just because of how taxing it is on your elbows and shoulders, I would limit to 1-2 attempt of best progression before calling it quits and continue focusing on building foundations.
