Seeing this swatch on PATTERNITY by Ukrainian-born painter and designer Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) made me suddenly aware that I had truly forgotten the work she created in the first half of the 20th century, mostly in Paris. Yet I always feel my spirits lift whenever I encounter her paintings, textiles, carpets or costumes in museums or books. The final black and white photo was taken in 1917 when Delaunay created stage costumes for Luba Tchernicheva as Kleopatra.
