Two ordinance men load .50 calibur cartridge belts into the wing of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane at an unspecified base in England, September 1944. The plane's pilot (unseen) is Lieutenant Colonel Francis S. Gabreski (also known by his nickname Gabby) who was the top American fighter ace (with 28 kills) in World War II; he later also became a ace in the Korean War.
Just Jugs: Just stunning images of P-47's. Enjoy. | War History Online
