1860s (and 50s) Ballgown Inspiration

Some of these are straight up 1850s. I tried not to go past 1867. I tend to like pastel/muted greens, blues, pinks, or white with black bows. Love stripes and plaids. I tend to like a giant bow in the center of a good-sized bertha. I also like a pleated, crossed-over bertha. Also into decorative buttons down the front of a bodice. I like the idea of a belt with a slide buckle. Like cleaner lines on the skirt, but a vertical row of bows or horizontal row of bows as a hem border is nice.

Image of Claudia Cardinale
Claudia Cardinale in 'The Leopard' by Luchino Visconti, 1963. The character portrayed by Claudia Cardinale is the daughter of a crass nouveau riche man who has given his daughter the best upbringing money can buy. Angelica is still no aristocrat Tosi knew exactly how to pitch his costuming - even the length of the pearl necklace is calculated to draw the eye downwards. Angelica is a prize beauty she knows it.
