The first one focuses on the general topics of translation, the second one on such issues as poetics, translation assessment, and the polysystem theory, and the third on the empirical study. The study’s aim was to examine whether literary fame of an author can affect the quality of translation of a literary text. According to information presented in chapter two, I hypothesized that a text signed with a name of a famous and recognized author will be translated better than the same text signed with a name of an anonymous author. Translations obtained during the experiment were checked twice: by professional translators, and by me according to the standards of American Translators Association. Although not all the results were statistically significant, they allowed me to state that there is a relation between literary fame of an author and the quality of translation. My hypothesis, though, was not defended as translations coming from the group which had got texts signed with a name of an anonymous author got more points than translations from the other group.

invention etc. and shows how they work in case of H.P. Lovecraft's fiction in 21 st century. It shows
how popular culture today may influence Cthulhu Mythos and why popular culture's participators
are interested in creating new content connected with it. The paper looks into different branches
such as: music, clothing, games, movies, graphics etc. to show that motives created by Lovecraft
may be found everywhere. The motives are used by both: professionals and amateurs which shows
how universal the motives are. The paper shows that Cthulhu Mythos have been so popular thanks
to universality and huge innovations possibilities which allows them to be shown in so many
different contexts.
