The purpose of the paper is to analyze trends in Kosovo's foreign trade through various statistical data published by the relevant institutions in Kosovo, in order to see directions and trends of development of exports and imports and trade balance of Kosovo, the obstacles that foreign trade activities are facing, especially those relating to export of goods and services. The data analyzed leads to the conclusion that Kosovo is facing a huge challenge such as large negative trade balance for the entire period observed. Having into consideration that disproportion between export and import is huge and given the fact that exports growth is vital for the economy of developing countries such as Kosovo, the natural and human potential available in Kosovo, which may be mobilized for the economic and export growth, are also analyzed.

This paper will present some features of the securities market in Kosovo. This market is currently intermediated by the primary dealers, which are all commercial banks that do have the duty to develop the secondary market. The paper presents some theoretical and practical aspects of the role and importance of securities issued by the Government and other issues related to them. Their distribution among maturities and investors is shown as significant element in development of this market. The paper also presents the ratio of the Kosovo government debt against the Gross Domestic Product and bank deposit rate as the two measurement rates, in order to see the impact of government debt on economic development in developing countries.

The purpose of the paper is to explore the effects of remittances and other variables, such as exports, capital formation, foreign direct investment, and labor force on economic growth in the six former Western Balkan communist countries (Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia). This study utilizes a strongly balanced panel data over the 2005-2015 period for the six Western Balkan countries using the ordinary least squares method (OLS), i.e., the Pooled Regression Model, to evaluate the parameters. According to the regression results, we can conclude that remittances have a positive impact on economic growth in the West Balkan countries, so remittances can foster economic growth in those countries. Also, we find a statistically significant positive relationship between economic growth and other variables included in the model, such as exports, capital formation, and labor. The relationship between economic growth and foreign direct investment has turned out to be statistically insignificant and negatively related.

In this paper some theoretical and practical aspects of the role of remittances in the development of countries receiving them are treated. An analytical approach is made about the migration trends of Kosovo's population, trends and role of remittances in the economic development of Kosovo through various statistical data published by relevant national and international institutions and current published material in this regard. Researched material and published data on the role of remittances in Kosovo's economic development lead to the conclusion that migration and remittances will continue to be an important part of the economic, political and social development of Kosovo.

The incentive to address this issue comes as a result of the high increase in participation in formal education in recent decades, especially in higher education. The research is mainly focused on private benefits from education, in terms of wage increases, assessed through a private return to investment in education. For this research, microdata from the Labour Force Survey has been used, conducted by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics. We used only the sample of wage employees, which includes 9,300 individuals. The econometric model used in processing the empirical results is based on Mincer's wage equation. The results presented in section 5 reveal that the rate of return on education investment has been sufficient to keep the demand for education investment alive. In comparison to the other two levels of education (primary and secondary), the result...

Results of the research showing that contributions of Nobel Laureates in the economy belong to two main frameworks of development of the general equilibrium theory: one was the mathematical model of general equilibrium developed by John R. Hicks (1939), Kenneth J.Arrow (1951) and Gerard Debreu (1954) and second frames of general equilibrium belongs to Paul A. Samuelson (1958). To highlight the contributions of these Nobel laureates in the development of the theory of general equilibrium have been selected and are presented in the paper some views, estimates and assumptions that have contributed not only in solving concrete problems, but also to the development of economic science in general. Their works represent a synthesis o...

Types and scale of informal economic activities reflect the specificities of socioeconomic context and the integration of the countries into the wider local-regional economy. The informal economy represents an important potential of labor and incomes, therefore there is a need for better understanding, since on this will depend the direction of the path for safer addressing of this issue. The first part of the paper defines the concept, causes, consequences and ways of measuring the informal economy, so as to gain a clear understanding of the subject matter. Under the existing data limitations, some characteristics and estimates are presented regarding the size of the informal economy in Kosovo, with focus on addressing the problems of transition from informal to formal economy. It is challenging exercise, and further research is needed.

Entrepreneurs create jobs. They drive and shape innovation, speeding up structural changes in the economy. By introducing new competition, they contribute indirectly to productivity. Entrepreneurship is thus a catalyst for economic growth and national competitiveness. The paper presents the theoretical framework of links between the entrepreneurship, enterprises and local economic development through two conceptual models established recently. The rest of the paper presents the importance and measures to be taken to promote entrepreneurship and enterprises at a local level as well as several possible programs that may be included in local economic development strategies so as to support the entrepreneurship and development of small and medium enterprises given the fact that there are crucial factors impacting the economic development of certain locality.
