The aim of this report is to analyse BP´s Corporate Social Responsibility report from 2000, or as BP calls it: Environmental and Social Report. This is done for the purpose of assessing the validity and reliability of their report, through an analysis of thoroughness and discussion of policies and data and anecdotes based on Boston College´s (2010) question to quality and thoroughness of CSR reporting. Special interest lies in this topic, not only due to it´s rebranding, but also the crisis that followed in the years after the rebranding.

BP subsequently engaged in crisis communications in attempts to restore a positive image. This study uses Benoit´s (1997) image restoration discourse typology as a template for message content, identified through content analysis.
