Mauritius at Horticultural farm, Department of Horticulture and Post-Harvest Technology, Palli Siksha Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, west Bengal during 2015 to 2016. The experiment was laid out in Randomized block design with nine treatments and replicated in three times, considering ten plants as a unit. The treatments comprising two levels of each zinc sulphate hepta hydrate (viz. @ 0.5% and @ 1.0 %), borax (viz. @ 0.5% and @ 1.0 % as source of boron). Two sprays were done at the flowering stage and at one month later of first spray. The results revealed that the effect of zinc and boron were found significant on fruit quality characters. Treatment combination of zinc sulphate @ 0.5% and borax @ 0.5% resulted maximum TSS Acid ratio (21.46), total sugar (8.66%) and reducing sugars (1.72%), lowest acidity (0.67%) along with higher TSS (14.36 o Brix). From the result of the present experiment it can be concluded that post flowering sprays of zinc and boron has significant role to improve the quality of pineapple.

Kew). The experiment was carried out in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. Treatment consisted of 9 treatment combinations viz., T1= Control; T2= 20t/ha FYM + 100% of recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) of NPK; T3= 30t/ha FYM + 75% of RDF of NPK; T4= 5 t/ha Vermicompost + 100% of RDF of NPK; T5= 7.5 t/ha Vermicompost + 75% of RDF of NPK; T6= 20t/ha FYM + 100% of RDF of NPK + bio fertilizer (Azotobactor + phosphate solubalizing bacteria or PSB); T7= 30t/ha FYM + 75% of RDF of NPK + bio fertilizer; T8= 5 t/ha Vermicompost + 100% of RDF of NPK + bio fertilizer; T9= 7.5 t/ha Vermicompost + 75%NPK + bio fertilizer. The result revealed that all the growth and yield characteristics are significantly affected by different levels of organic and inorganic treatment combination. With respect to different plant growth parameters like plant height, total no of leaf, D-leaf initiation days, D-leaf length, D-leaf width and plant grith found effective with treatment combination T9 (7.5t/ha vermicompost + 75% RDF of NPK + bio fertilizer). Among all the treatment received 7.5t/ha vermicompost, 75% RDF of NPK and bio fertilizer recorded the highest flowering and fruiting, maximum estimated yield along with better nutrient uptake. From different treatment combinations on FYM, NPK and bio fertilizer, it can be concluded that Growth and yield is faster in nutrient applied plants especially were organic and inorganic nutrients has been applied with biofertilizers.

Merr.] is popular all over the world for its pleasant aroma, sweet-acidic taste and smooth pulp texture. It is the third most important fruit on the basis of global trade after banana and citrus. The present investigation was carried out in 2014–16 to assess the growth behaviour and performance of different pineapple varieties like Kew, Queen, Mauritius, Haricharanvita, Baruipur Local, MD-2, MTS, and Amritha in northern parts of West Bengal. The experiment was laid in Randomized Block Design (RBD) for successive two years. The indigenous Haricharanvita variety showed the maximum vigour in terms of plant height, leaf length and canopy spread. The maximum numbers of leaves were recorded in Kew followed by Queen. Maximum leaf area was also recorded in Kew and the maximum numbers of suckers were produced by Mauritius followed by Baruipur Local. Mauritius exhibited earliest (325.75 days) and maximum flowering (98.34%), required lowest time (109.45 days) for...

The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with four replications. The vines were trained on 'Y'-trellies system and spacing of 2×3 m 2. The vine was pruned on 30 th January. As per fruit maturity, the cultivars Pusa Navrang were considered to be the earliest harvesting. Among the twelve cultivars, maximum fruit yield was recorded in Arka Neelamani (7.81 kg vine-1). The number of bunches/vine were varied significantly among the cultivars with number of bunches/ vine highest in cultivar Arka Trishna. But bunch weight was highest in cultivar Arkavati (264.2 g). Size of the bunch was maximum in Arka Kanchan. However, different cultivars of grape exhibited significant variation with respect to average ten berries weight. The ten berries weight was highest in Arka Magestic. The cultivars Arka Trishna gave the highest juice %, total soluble solids, lowest acidity, highest TSS/acid ratio and sugar content. Ascorbic acid content highest was recorded from cultivar Pusa Navrang as compared to other cultivars. Incidence of major insects and diseases determine the economic feasibility of a cultivar in the area. It appears from the good performed cultivars less incidence of major insects and diseases during flowering to fruiting period. On the basis of marketable yield, fruit quality and tolerance to pest, cultivars Arka Neelamani for table purpose can be recommended for commercial cultivation under Bankura conditions of West Bengal.

Andrews Pally, Rathindra Pally, Ballavpur, Bahadurpur Pashchim, Sonajhuri) and jamun fruits were brought to record their physical as well as bio-chemical character at laboratory of Department of Horticulture & post-harvest technology. Present study reveals a wide and significant variation in physical and bio-chemical characters of fruits has been observed among 15 different jamun genotypes. Among all genotypes G-14 was superior on the basis of fruit weight (3.16g), fruit diameter (17.46mm), and greater pulp content (2.34g) and average total sugar (16.26%) content. Owing to moderate fruit size (21.89mm in length and 15.64mm in diameter) G-4 genotype is also superior on the basis of higher TSS (25.90⁰B), total sugar (13.65%) and reducing sugar (8.23%). So, the overall findings of the present study conclude that genotypes G-14 and G-4 are superior over the 15 local jamun...
