About Us

Who we are

We are WWOS the digital home of Channel 9's Wide World of Sports.

Our history in broadcast television is rich; with the Wide World of Sports brand famous for the iconic weekly show of the same name that premiered on Saturday 23rd May, 1981 and became a weekend staple for sports fans throughout the 1980s and 90s.

First hosted by Mike Gibson and Ian Chappell, the baton passed to Max Walker and Ken Sutcliffe in the 90s with Ian Maurice the regular anchor at the WWOS Update Desk.

More than 40 years later, the Wide World of Sports brand lives on in the world-class sport coverage that Channel 9 delivers.

We respect this great history at WWOS and our commitment to sport is second to none.

The Wide World of Sports columnists and editorial coverage sets the daily agenda, with sporting greats like Andrew Johns, Allana Ferguson, Phil Gould, Ruan Sims, Darren Lockyer, Paul Gallen, Jelena Dokic, Mark Taylor, Ian Chappell, Georgie Parker and Todd Woodbridge offering opinion and analysis that takes sport's biggest talking points into new territory.

Channel 9 holds the television rights to some of the world's best sports, including the Olympics, Paralympics, rugby league, tennis and Melbourne Cup. Our talented team of commentators and journalists work across both digital and our TV broadcasts to bring you closer to the action.

But that's not all; WWOS also provides comprehensive coverage of cricket, AFL, motorsport, basketball, boxing, UFC, football, golf and horse racing as well as major global events such as football World Cups.

Our coverage of every sport includes previews, live scores, live blogs of big events and all the reaction and talking points that make news both on and off the field.
