Bronze is the defining metal of the European Bronze Age and has been at the center of archaeological and science-based research for well over a century. Archaeometallurgical studies have largely focused on determining the geological origin of the constituent metals, copper and tin, and their movement from producer to consumer sites. More recently, the effects of recycling, both temporal and spatial, on the composition of the circulating metal stock have received much attention. Also, discussions of the value and perception of bronze, both as individual objects and as hoarded material, continue to be the focus of scholarly debate. Here, we bring together the sometimes-diverging views of several research groups on these topics in an attempt to find common ground and set out the major directions of the debate, for the benefit of future research. The paper discusses how to determine and interpret the geological provenance of new metal entering the system; the circulation of extant metal across time and space, and how this is seen in changing compositional signatures; and some economic aspects of metal production. These include the role of metal-producing communities within larger economic settings, quantifying the amount of metal present at any one time within a society, and aspects of hoarding, a distinctive European phenomenon that is less prevalent in the Middle Eastern and Asian Bronze Age societies.

This article analyzes some relevant questions as regards the impact of COVID-19-related social living conditions on spatial planning policies and practices. The proposed discussion aims at highlighting and discussing a number of outstanding topics of spatial planning which public administrative bodies, practitioners, entrepreneurs and organizations operating in the profit and non-profit sectors, and the local communities should carefully consider with reference to a new planning outset after the lockdown period. Innovative and creative approaches should be identified and implemented when dealing with collective public spaces, shopping malls, retail activities and related areas, urban and regional mobility-related infrastructure and services, food-supply changes and their implications in terms of development of local food-producing practices, spatial social control and privacy, mitigation of climate change-related negative impacts, and public awareness and commitment towards losers, especially urban losers. Each of these points presents important challenges for the future of spatial planning. Some of these challenges are synthetically described and discussed in this article.
In his doctoral thesis, “L'individu et sa genèse physico-biologique”, Simondon proposes three philosophical claims that are crucial, in my view. The first is that, in complex physical or biological systems, individuation is not simply the property of an individual, on the contrary, individuality is always the result of an individuation process. The second is that a biological individuated system has a specificity: it acts on its own theatre. The third one is that there must be some non-trivial recursive procedure, through which a physical individuated system can switch into a biological one. In this talk, I'm going to propose a philosophical modelling to develop this philosophical scheme more explicitly. It will enable me to characterize biological individuation as a second-order organisation, and to connect it directly with the two concepts of heteronomy and adaptability. I will show that, unlike physical individuation, biological individuation specifies itself. But it doesn't do it in a logic of maintenance, as proposed by Francisco Varela, who used a symbolism similar to mine. It does it in a logic of heteronomy and adaptability, the logic of life. Varela's model therefore appears to be a special case within a more general framework, which is the only way to understand how new constraints/standards/functions can emerge in a biological system, whether on an evolutionary, ontogenetic or behavioural level. Finally, to say that biological individuation is self-specifying is to say that it can be interpreted, and that we cannot understand how a biological system works if we remain fixated on a strictly causal mode of explanation, and on the search for mechanisms, as if it were a watch, a radiator or a computer. We fail to see that, through and by specific biological repair, immune and perceptive devices, it works in a world of signs, in such a way that biological organisation and cognition are always already coupled at the outset. It is only evolution that will gradually uncouple what has been coupled.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of face-to-face classes in the Philippines, prompting the Department of Education (DepEd) to introduce various alternative learning modalities. Among these, the Modular-Print Distance Learning approach has become prevalent, particularly in areas with limited access to digital resources. This study focuses on the development and validation of contextualized supplemental activity sheets for Grade 4 learners at Bueno Integrated School, aiming to enhance their English reading skills. The research utilizes a Research and Development Project Design, incorporating qualitative methods to gather feedback through interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with community leaders, parents, and teachers. The activity sheets are crafted to reflect the local context of Bueno, Capas, Tarlac, considering the community's people, places, products, and events. The materials are designed to be self-instructional, self-paced, and student-directed, aligning with the K-12 Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC). Validation of the activity sheets involved face and content evaluation by experts, including district supervisors and master teachers. Feedback from pupils and teachers indicated that the materials effectively supported learners' understanding and application of core lesson content. The study highlights the importance of instructional materials in promoting student-centered learning, especially during the pandemic when traditional classroom interactions are limited. The findings suggest that the contextualized supplemental activity sheets are a valuable tool for improving English reading competencies among Grade 4 learners. Recommendations include broader implementation of the materials, sourcing funds for reproduction, and further research to develop similar intervention materials for other subjects and grade levels. This study underscores the potential of localized, modular instruction to adapt to educational challenges posed by the pandemic and beyond.

An authoritative directive, when it has legitimacy, is a reason to exclude from consideration some of the reasons to act and not to act in this way. One is obliged to obey, even when one disagrees with the directive. Therefore, authority demands deference regarding how one acts, although one is free to think what one likes about that action. How can deference of this kind be compatible with freedom and rationality? That is the so-called moral problem of authority. For some, authority has legitimacy in a deliberative democracy, because deference to its rules better meets the demands of freedom and rationality. As I hope to show here, this line of thought does not give an adequate account of authority. If a directive is legitimate only if it has a certain content, as deliberative democrats are saying, one does not defer to but rather merely complies with such a directive.

Sustainable development of waqf (Endowment) property is the mutawalli’s responsibility to make the waqf property productive and can produce benefits that can enhance or increase the value of the waqf properties. The development that not only contributes to welfare but also to finance or income is considered as one of the forms of sustainable development. This proves that sustainable development of waqf property can contribute to the socio-economic development of Muslims. However, how far is the concept of sustainability in the development of waqf can be comprehended appropriately? What are the characteristics of sustainable waqf property development? How can the concept of sustainability of waqf property development be implemented? These questions led to this study to identify the concept of sustainability in the development of waqf property. This study utilised the exploratory research design. Sources are gained from primary and secondary data. The primary data are obtained through in-depth interviews of six waqf practitioners comprising the officials at the State Islamic Religious Council (MAIN), who has been involved in managing waqf properties for more than five years. Secondary data is obtained from previous studies, such as thesis, books, articles, journals, magazines, and other publications. These data are then analysed by using qualitative content analysis using ATLAS.ti Version 8.0 (AV8) software. The results of this study found three elements in the concept of sustainable development of waqf property. The analysis found that there are forms of sustainable development on waqf land that especially involves socio-economic development as it can generate funds and increase the value of waqf property.
