Jean-Luc Nancy, interviewed by Nathalie Léger, reflects on the archive and its meaning concerning the process of identification (singular, historical, political) and misidentification. What does “the past” mean? What is “passing”? What is, for instance, the philosophical sense of the remains? With the archive and its devices, something remains (of our body or of our writing) and “passes” to other places and times: “Mais y a-t-il autre chose qu’un reste, un reste impalpable, une trace qui va lentement s’effaçant et qui commence toujours déjà sensiblement à s’effacer avec chaque jour qui passé.
