Rohith Vemula's dream of becoming Carl Sagan to write science abruptly ended. This 26-year-old son of a landless Dalit mother blamed none, friends or foes, but his death has already exposed their criminality stemming from their casteist mindset. In a spirit of revolt becoming the true moral tribute to Rohith, the students have immediately rejected the administration's awkward overture and declared their resolve to continue their struggle, until the people responsible, including Smriti Irani are punished. This paper looks into the circumstances and the build up of the death of the young Dalit scholar and how the philosophy of caste discrimination is a natural outcome of Hindutva. This paper probes how the public spaces such as universities have turned anti-Dalit and a den of right wing Hindutva politics. How institutional discrimination that has long existed could be understood better by investigating the case of death of Rohith and other students in universities. How death of a Dalit could be turned into a politics of gains and profits is also dealt in this paper. The Brahmanical section takes pride in self-righteousness, however none of these would go unnoticed by people.

Identity Theft presents a striking package, starting with its controversial cover design. The colour combination of black, green, red and white in Bashil Makhoul's Al-hejara (1990) mimics the Palestinian flag, the display of which was illegal under the terms of the Israeli occupation, in order to question " the sinister rhetoric of nationalism through its use of symbols of blood and land " (50). In another work, Zigzag (1992), Makhoul appropriates the logo of Shell oil into an arabesque geometric pattern which also repeats the form of a six-pointed star in reference to the

As technology evolves, our digital footprint keeps increasing. Now, everything we do is largely related to us being online, connected and logged. Therefore, if someone’s online data is exposed, then their life will be compromised. This is called identity theft and in this era of technology, it has become one of the most serious forms of crime. When someone’s data is compromised, there is a huge chance of harming the person financially, morally and socially. New technology and the knowledge gap it creates when it first comes out is perfect for identity thieves to exploit. If we are not cautious, our future will be very different than what we dream of due to the very technology created to make it better. Hence, we need to understand the technology, identify the loopholes and educate ourselves to avoid being held captive by our digital footprint.
(This is a slightly revised version of an article written in 2006) The publicity that was given to the incidents of burning of five railway bogies and vandalizing of a hundred bus windows was not extended to the massacre of four members of a single family. The upper caste media widely, and intentionally, publicized that an angered Dalit community had gone on a rampage as a result of the desecration of Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur. But, the gruesome incident in Khairlanji village of Bhandara district, Maharashtra, in which the family of Bhaiyalal Bhotmange, comprising his wife Surekha, daughter Priyanka and sons Roshan and Suresh were subjected to inhuman violence, remained unknown to the world outside the village for two whole months after it happened, thanks to a very 'vigilant' media. The family was paraded naked in front of all villagers who ordered Roshan and Suresh to rape their mother and sister publicly, and when they refused, mutilated their private parts. Later, they gang raped Surekha and her daughter Priyanka openly, inserted sticks in their vaginas, killed all the four members of the family and threw them on the outskirts of the village. The fact that this horrific incident was picked up by the upper caste media only two months later provides ample evidence of their hardcore, discriminatory attitude.

Identity theft is one of the crimes that threaten both society and individuals. Millions of people have been badly affected by identity theft following misuse of their identities by criminals. The term 'identity theft' is used to include all illicit activities (gathering, utilising, buying selling, etc.) that target personal information (including natural and legal persons). Identity theft is not a new crime, and it has grown and become a major concern in the era of information. Around the globe, laws and regulations have been enacted and revised to accommodate the phenomenon. Based on the divine rules of Islam, the Shari'ah has its own formula and perspectives on matter such as identity theft. This paper attempts to define the term 'identity theft' and then recollect and examine some of the Shari'ah rules related to the crime in general and discuss their applicability to this insurmountable matter of identity theft so as to demonstrate solutions that can be offered to Muslim-populated jurisdiction. It is a doctrinal rather than empirical study, therefore, it attempts to explore the Shari'ah rules based on the primary sources of Islam, i.e. the Qur'an and the prophetic traditions (hadith), as well as the juristic opinions of prominent Muslim scholars. The study finds that the Shari'ah law is very resourceful with principles and theories on which laws on identity theft can be established. This paper demonstrates another area where the Shari'ah should be further explored to answer to the challenges of contemporary society. It is argued that a study such as this will positively contribute to the field of justice as it looks at identity crime from another approach and also suggests further research to help alleviate identity theft especially in the Muslim communities.

instruction throughout the attainment of my degrees have molded my perception of the world and what role my education plays in it. I would like to express my special thanks to my husband, Chris, who has always given me hope that one day this would all pay off. I would like to say thank you to my parents, Roy Wayne, Sr. and Connie Collett, who never gave up hope on me and is mostly responsible for my achievements. In the backdrop of the suicide of a PhD student, Rohith Vemula in the Hyderabad Central University campus, many newfacts have emerged. While the issue of assault on a fellow student, suspension of five students are currently subjudice, what is important is to see the transition of the boy as is evident from his facebook wall. It seems that during the last few years, he was being mentored by some people who first drew him to Ambedkar Students Association from the SFI and then to the , All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) lead by the Owaisi brothers.
