At the State Academy of Artistic Sciences in Moscow, there was a systematic critique of the Petrograd «formal school». It was conducted from various perspectives by representatives of traditional literary history (N. K. Piksanov, P. N. Sakulin), exact literary studies (B. I. Yarkho), and philosophers and philologists within the circle of G. G. Špet (M. M. Königsberg, B. V. Gornung, N. I. Zhinkin, N. N. Volkov). The latter formed the Commission for the Study of Artistic Form. At one of the early meetings of the Commission, linguist Sadi Yakovlevich Masé exposed his views upon «The Melodics of the Russian Lyric Verse» by B. M. Ėjchenbaum. The article analyzes the discussion following Masé's speach, traces the logic in the responses of Špet, Volkov, Zhinkin, and the presenter himself. It reconstructs Masé's opinions on the melodics of verse and the logic of the analysis of poetic form proposed by Špet. In the appendix, the minutes of the discussion of S. Y. Masé's report are published for the first time, accompanied by a commentary.

This article examines defeats and losses as phenomena of an ‘expanded military history’ of Roman History from the Republic to the Principate. It adopts a cultural historical perspective of the military historical phenomenon. “Patterns”and “strategies”are defined, that appear in the sources when dealing with Roman defeats, losses and losers (in particular the commanders or even the emperor himself). Above, the historiography of the Roman imperial period is exemplary examined to see what reasons, interpretations or explanations are given there for suffering a defeat and whether and how these are part of narrative strategies. Sometimes military catastrophes simply were concealed, belittled or reinterpreted. How Rome dealt with defeat tells something about Rome’s society and especially the elite: “Roman culture”or “Rome’s political culture” shaped the way how the military phenomenon of defeat was dealt with. Photomodelling refers to the innovative process in the digital environment which transforms simple raster images into a three-dimensional model. The revolution of this technique is particularly explicit in a comparison of the cost of the instruments, the so inaccessible laser scanners on one hand, and the common digital cameras on the other hand. Furthermore, international research organizations have developed open source software that allow the creation of the numerical model and the elaboration of the point cloud. Based on personal research experiences and after on the teaching support, the aim of the study is to analyze the logic of these processes, to verify its applicability in the field of architectural research, making a useful way to understand the computer procedures and to determine criteria for evaluation of their reliability.

As a commentary to a special issue dedicated to multilingualism within the family from Southern and decolonial approaches, this article examines what it could mean to ‘decolonize the field of Family Language Policy’ – or, rather, to reimagine this field in terms of the more all-encompassing label of family multilingualism. It draws on my own experience of the difficulty of fitting into a field configured in English, from my position as a French researcher working in the contexts of the so-called Global South and supervising students who come from backgrounds minoritized in France and who are personally involved in the subjects on which they work. This commentary has thus been written from relative marginality in this field and out of an experience of both familiarity and foreignness. By proposing four lateral moves, it adds to studies calling for viewpoints to be situated, for voices from the South to be included and for knowledge itself to be decolonized. These lateral moves form part of an attempt to decolonize this academic field if we are to take seriously the need to clean house within the academy itself so that knowledges rooted in Western/Northern experiences and traditions are simply part of the palette of knowledges.
