2020

SIP 2019 inclusion policy The Science in Public (SIP) 2019 conference organisers are committed to supporting diversity and inclusion in the organising and hosting of the conference. The SIP 2019 conference is committed to the principles of equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We are committed to facilitating the inclusion of contributions from academics, practitioners and community partners regardless of race, age, culture, ability, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital status, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic status. We believe that making visible, diverse contributions leads to richer debates and knowledge in the area of research and beyond. To this end, we are practising non-discrimination in the development and delivery of the conference with a diverse and inclusive organising committee who are committed to: ● Working to reduce physical, social, and economic barriers to participation in the conference and making reasonable adjustments to meet specific access requirements. ● Providing a positive and inclusive experience for all conference attendees, including those with disabilities and other access requirements. ● Cultivating an awareness of the ways in which various social, cultural, political, or economic privileges are, at any given time, accessible to some participants and not others. We will work towards achieving the above through reduced conference fees and bursaries to support people with limited access to financial means to cover the cost of the conference. We will seek advice on the fairest way in which this is expressed in terms of reducing fees to ensure our support is targeted to those who need it most. SIP Code of Conduct The organisers of SIP 2019 commit to providing a safe, respectful, harassment-free, accessible, and pleasant conference experience with equity in rights for all. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants. Harassment includes but is not limited to overt and/or covert acts of: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Verbal accusations or bullying Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following both in person and online Harassing photography or recording Sustained disruption of talks or other events Interference with a person’s participation or opportunity for participation Inappropriate physical contact Unwelcome sexual attention Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour We expect participants to follow these rules during all conference events as well as any social media coverage. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference (without a refund) at the discretion of the conference organisers. A response that the participant was “just joking”, or “teasing”, or being “playful”, will not be accepted. Anyone witnessing or subject to unacceptable behavior should notify individual members of the SIP 2019 Committee or approach a volunteer who will be wearing an identifying T-shirt and/or badge.
