Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a special form of multicarrier modulation scheme, which divides the entire frequency selective fading channel into many orthogonal narrow band flat fading sub channels. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is considered to be a promising technique against the multipath fading channel for wireless communications [1]. However, OFDM faces the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) problem that is a major drawback of multicarrier transmission system. We will be using Selected Mapping method (SLM) to reduce PAPR, improve BER while maintain high SNR. MATLAB® simulation is used to implement the proposed model.

Selected mapping (SLM) is a well-known method for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The main drawback of this technique is that, for each data block, it requires the transmission of several side information bits, which results in some data rate loss. These redundant bits are so critical to the error performance of the system that they need in practice to be protected by a powerful channel code. This increases the system complexity and transmission delay, and decreases the data rate even further. In this paper, we propose a novel SLM method for which no side information needs to be sent. By considering the example of an OFDM system using 16-QAM modulation, it is shown that the proposed method performs very well both in terms of PAPR reduction and bit error rate at the receiver output.
where the different code having same information and by using selection criteria one of the codes having less PAPR is selected. Modified approach reduces system PAPR to a great extend as well as it reduces cost and complexity of the system. From simulated results it shows that the modified SLM approach is more suitable for practical implementation.
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation (MCM) technique which seems to be an attractive candidate for fourth generation (4G) wireless communication systems. Peak-to-average Power ratio(PAPR) problem is the major drawback of multicarrier transmission system which leads to power inefficiency. There are various techniques which can be used to reduce PAPR.In this paper Selective mapping technique(SLM) is used to reduce PAPR of coded OFDM signal. High peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is a limiting factor towards the performance of an OFDM system. Selected Mapping (SLM) is a popular peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction scheme used with the OFDM systems. In this technique, U set of candidate sequences are generated that leads to improvement in the PAPR reduction ability of the OFDM systems. The major concern of the conventional SLM is that as the number of candidates is increased, there is a proportional rise in the inverse fast Fourier transforms (IFFT) computations of the systems. In our article we have proposed a scheme in which we increase the number of candidate sequence as (U+U 2 /4) that leads to improved PAPR performance of the OFDM systems without any equivalent rise in the IFFT computations. It has been demonstrated that both the simulation and analytical results are well-approximated in our proposed schemes. We also estimate the threshold value of PAPR at a fixed value of complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) for different number of subcarriers and candidate sequences. Results demonstrate that our proposed scheme outperforms in terms of PAPR reduction ability of the OFDM signal and obtains effective PAPR threshold values with negligible loss in BER performance of the system.
In OFDM technique, splitting of higher data streams into a number of lower data streams simultaneously. But the major complication in OFDM is very high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). In this paper we have suggested two techniques for reducing the PAPR are Selected Mapping (SLM) and Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA). By considering, the OFDM with QAM modulation, simulation results shows that both methods perform well in reducing PAPR and achieve the PAPR reduction up to 6.4 and 5.8 dB respectively for 10 -2 PAPR level. The results demonstrate that CMA has superior performance over SLM in reducing PAPR for the same number of subcarriers by rejecting of explicit of side information, which is very crucial factor for the performance of the OFDM communication system.
Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a frequency division multiplexing scheme or a digital multi-carrier modulation method used for encoding digital data on multiple carrier frequencies. Each sub-carrier is modulated at a low symbol rate. OFDM has established into a widespread scheme for applications such as digital television and audio broadcasting, power line Communication and 4G mobile communications. Since large numbers of subcarriers are used, high Peak to average Power Reduction Ratio (PAPR) is introduced. The PAPR is one of the main drawback and a challenge in wideband multiple carrier systems that uses OFDM system .The Proposed method is Clipping by using different modulation techniques. The Performance of different modulation techniques based on PAPR in OFDM system is analyzed by using Matlab Simulation.

In advance communication field there should be high data rate in addition to power efficiency and low bit error rate. This demand of high data rate can be fulfilled by single carrier modulation but compromising the trade-off between power efficiency and bit error rate. Again in the presence of selective fading environment it is difficult in case of single carrier modulation to achieve high data rate with low bit error rate performance. To overcome these problems advance step towards multicarrier modulation scheme is possible to get high data rate in this selective fading channel with low bit error rate performance. To achieve better performance using multi carrier modulation we make the subcarriers to be orthogonal to each other and the technique is called as the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). But the greatest disadvantage of the OFDM technique is its high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). Here in this paper we will describe how PAPR is increased and its reduct...

In this letter, a novel semi-blind selected mapping (SLM) technique is proposed for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system. No explicit side information is sent; instead the selected signal index is embedded in transmitted data. The proposed SLM technique maintains the same PAPR as classical SLM technique, while increases the overall throughput. Simulations results of several OFDM systems employing the proposed semi-blind SLM technique using either QPSK or 16-QAM modulation show that it performs very well in in both the SI index detection error rate and bit error rate (BER). Index Terms-Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), selected mapping (SLM).
