Il volume curato da Luciano Garella nasce dal desiderio di studiare e salvaguardare un monumentale corpus di disegni tecnici – rilievi, piante, opere idrauliche e molto altro ancora – emerso dal ricco patrimonio dell’Ufficio Catalogo e dell’Archivio Disegni della Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per il Comune di Napoli. L’obiettivo di questo studio è l’analisi di disegni e documenti degli Uffici tecnici del regno dei Borbone per lungo tempo ignorati e dimenticati, cercando di mettere a disposizione della comunità scientifica e degli appassionati materiali inediti di interesse storico, documentale ed architettonico. I fogli raccolti nel catalogo sono spesso datati e firmati dagli architetti o dagli ingegneri alle dipendenze della Casa reale di Napoli e raffigurano proprietà dei Borbone non solo nei confini del regno, ma disseminate anche in altri stati dell’Italia preunitaria.

Per alcuni secoli Bartolo – o forse, meglio, la proiezione “eroica” che di lui i cultori del diritto avevano oggettivato e fatto propria – ha dominato la scena della giurisprudenza italiana ed europea e le sue teorie sono state riprese, studiate, applicate nelle aule universitarie e nei tribunali, esercitando un’influenza duratura e senza paragoni possibili sulla vita del diritto, in luoghi e tempi assai lontani tra loro. Per tutto ciò la personalità scientifica di Bartolo ha lasciato un’impronta indelebile nel diritto comune, tra tardo Medioevo e prima modernità ed egli può senz’altro considerarsi, più in generale, una delle figure di riferimento della cultura europea. Nell’occasione del settimo centenario della nascita di Bartolo da Sassoferrato è parso dunque utile riconsiderare il suo lascito scientifico e tornare ad indagare la sua opera, raccogliendo intorno a tale progetto un gruppo di storici del diritto che fossero disponibili a mettere a fuoco con metodologia aggiornata e rigorosa alcuni degli innumerevoli temi toccati da Bartolo, rendendogli l’omaggio di un rinnovato studio del suo magistero, lumeggiato nella sua complessità e multiformità d’interessi e di esiti. I frutti delle due occasioni congressuali tenutesi, rispettivamente, nel 2013 e nel 2014 a Sassoferrato nella cornice dei Congressi internazionali di Studi umanistici, organizzati dall’Istituto internazionale di Studi Piceni, vengono ora raccolti nella convinzione che i saggi qui pubblicati possano rappresentare un contributo rilevante alla migliore conoscenza del pensiero bartoliano.

It Da sempre, nell'Europa monarchica i matrimoni delle famiglie reali sono stati l'elemento centrale di un complesso gioco di alleanze internazionali volte a terminare conflitti, consolidare processi di pace, legittimare nuove dinastie regnanti, puntellare dinastie traballanti. I matrimoni dinastici hanno caratterizzato la storia dei rapporti internazionali per un arco di tempo plurimillenario, arrivando a proiettare i loro effetti fino a pochi decenni or sono, nel periodo tra le due Guerre mondiali. Durante parecchi secoli a partire dal Medio Evo, le genealogie dei Regnanti europei si sono intrecciate ripetutamente seguendo la ragion di Stato senza, per altro, riuscire ad eliminare i conflitti armati tra i Regni. Spesso, un legame coniugale anche lontano nel tempo poteva legittimare pretese ad occupare un trono, allorquando si fosse interrotta la linea successoria diretta della Casa regnante.
