Fiction and Figuration in High and Late Medieval Literature. , 2016
This piece grapples with the issues of fiction and fictionality as they relate to the twelfth century. In the past a significant position was assigned to Chrétien de Troyes for his Arthurian romances. Here the focus rests more heavily on Latin works, including those from the eleventh century (such as Ruodlieb and the ridicula in the Ecbasis captivi) that helped to pave the way. Latin terminology considered includes fabula and historia. Other related topics include textuality, individuality, and vernacularity. The relevance of Latin novels and Old French romans antiques is touched on, alongside the possible impact of contacts with Byzantium and Islam. Finally, passing attention is paid to the effects of Aristotelianism and (Neo)Platonism. Ed. Marianne Pade, Anders Cullhed, Anders Hallengren, and Brian Møller Jensen. Critiques of the common core in early math: A research-based response, 2019
We respond to a call to analyze issues of curriculum standards and to present alternative storylines by addressing criticisms of the Common Core State Standards in early childhood. We describe a storyline from multiple media and evaluate this storyline’s criticisms, focusing on the criticism that the standards are developmentally inappropriate. We review research and conclude that the criticism is invalid and may reflect a historical belief in the primacy of development over learning rather than the research record. Misinterpreting or ignoring relevant research has equity consequences because it may particularly harm those children most in need of learning support in learning grade-level mathematics. Fortunately, theory and research illuminate learning trajectories that help all children meet these standards.

Much like face masks, hand sanitisers have become a household item and a prominent symbol since the COVID-19 pandemic. As sanitisers began to be widely used, contingent issues related to toxic ingredients in sanitising products, heightened pandemic-related anxiety, unscrupulous profiteering through inflated sanitiser prices, obsessive sanitisation, contamination fear, stockpiling, panic buying, and concerns regarding the overall effectiveness of hand sanitisers emerged. Building on these themes, the present article investigates the various issues related to sanitisers after a brief review of the history of sanitisers. To do so, the present article analyses sequential comics and single-panelled cartoons from comic artists such as Randall Munroe, Sarah Morrisette, Shivesh Shrivastava and Dan McConnell. This essay extends its inquiry beyond examining sanitisation practices during the COVID-19 pandemic and associated cultural implications. Drawing on insights from Object Oriented Ontology, this article brings to relief how sanitisers have evolved into objects that hold, govern and shape our modern existence. Furthermore, the present article highlights how the comic medium visually enunciates the lived experiences of the pandemic, rituals of sanitising and associated issues.
