Invitation to Sociology by Peter Berger

This bibliography of sociology is a list of works, organized by subdiscipline, on the subject of sociology. Some of the works are selected from general anthologies of sociology; [1][2][3][4][5] other works are selected because they are notable enough to be mentioned in a general history of sociology or one of its subdisciplines. Sociology studies society using various methods of empirical investigation to understand human social activity, from the micro level of individual agency and interaction to the macro level of systems and social structure. Goals & Objectives of the Course: This course aims at introducing sociology as a discipline by looking at its origins and development and the way it is different from and related to other social sciences. By means of an informed engagement with basic concepts and processes, the course is an attempt at familiarising the students with the essentials of the discipline. Expected Outcome: Students are expected to comprehend the emergence, growth and development of sociology alongside understanding its basic concepts.

This course will review many of the key social theories in contemporary sociology. It is important we understand that explicit theoretical conceptualizations are essential tools for studying and understanding society.

Positive human relationships are an essential part of a civilized society and how we interact with each other is important so that we can find answers to questions and solve problems in our world. "Sociology teaches us to look at life in a scientific, systematic way." The way that we view the world comes from what we learn in our everyday activities. "The values, beliefs, lifestyles of those around us, as well as historic events help to mold us into unique individuals who have varied outlooks on social reality."
