Thieves in God's house linking the present church and Jesus' response.
The Routledge Companion to English Folk Performance, 2021
Interest in ‘The Picturesque’ and the advent of Romanticism from the late eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries brought to the Lake District many literary and antiquarian visitors, keen to view not only the dramatic landscapes but also the local people and their ‘manners and customs’. The reports of these early tourists, and the glimpses of music making we catch in the writings of Wordsworth and his circle, offer insights into rural performances of folk music – social dancing in particular. During the same period, much dialect verse was published by vernacular dialect poets in the region, who often depicted lively scenes at merry neets and country weddings, complete with singing, fiddlers, clog dancers and more. Taken together, the reportage of both the educated visitor and the local poet offers a unique contemporary snapshot of the folk music, dance and song traditions of the Lake Counties of Cumberland and Westmorland.

As a medium that produces both a visual and spoken interpretation of elements of social identity, cinema proffers an instructive look at a culture's reaction to challenges to the gender conventions that define it. Alessandro Blasetti's La corona di ferro (1941), Bernardo Bertolucci's Il conformista (1970), and Lina Wertmuller's Sotto … Sotto … Strapazzato d'anomala passione (1984) reveal what can occur when individuals step outside the strict parameters of gender enforced by society and usher in the possibility of alternatives to the heterosexual union. The way the three films respond to their female characters' attempts at controlling gender provides insight into the social unease with the interpretation of masculinity and femininity. Indeed, the films mobilize to strengthen and reaffirm conventional gender categories. The female character who defies conventional codes of feminine behavior in these films is, respectively, the transvestite, the androgyne, and...

This monograph aims to structure the concept of sport. It is the inconclusive result of inquiring minds open to unanswered questions and inconclusive answers. It is geared to freedom of thought, of dialogue and of letters, where the search for the concept becomes theoretical debates, confronting themselves and improper thoughts, interlacing successes and uncertainties. Here manifests itself everyday being, culture and education; a quest for knowledge that sacrifices the spontaneous and so free when part of the concrete to face the unknown and mysterious this is why, all that is left of that desire to understand the purpose of our existence, are doubts and doubts, discussions and further discussions; an eternal question, eternal failure to define a concept that recreates with the same historical evolution. Then only has to pretend to be leaving a seed of knowledge.

Given the significance of creating an inclusive academic environment for international students, our study examines how three newly arrived international students (a Chinese female and two Korean males) navigated the institutional and interactional norms in an academic orientation class at a U.S. university. Drawing on nexus analysis, we examine student class disengagement at the intersection of discourses in place, interaction order, and historical body. In particular, we focus on how the Chinese international female student was perceived as being "disengaged" and "disrespectful" in class by her Korean graduate male classmates and her female instructor. Such discursive positioning, we argue, was attributed to the interplay of various factors, such as our student participants' navigation of U.S. classroom participation expectations. Furthermore, we argue that class disengagement should be understood within a wider sociocultural space as such disengagement is interwoven with the broader U.S. classroom discourses and individual participants' past experiences.
En toda historia de amor siempre hay algo que nos acerca a la eternidad y a la esencia de la vida, porque las historias de amor encierran en sí todos los secretos del mundo.
