The Faculty of Arts of the University of Bonn is seeking to fill the position of a
W 1-Professorship in ArchaeoSciences / Bioarchaeology
financed by the VolkswagenStiftung
at the Department of Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology at the earliest opportunity for a period
of six years. An evaluation will take place after three years, and subject to a positive assessment the
contract will be renewed for three further years.
We seek a colleague with a strong record of research excellence in Physical Anthropology or
Bioarchaeology. In addition to representing this academic area at Bonn University in teaching and
research, the successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in the development of
the Bonn Center for Archaeological Sciences (BoCAS). A core goal of BoCAS is to develop innovative
and integrated approaches to research at the intersection of archaeology and sciences.
Requirements are expertise and a record of publication in two or more of the following areas: human
health, diet, nutrition, disease, migration, adaptation to climate change and excellence in fieldwork
and experience in laboratory research. A demonstrated interest and experience in collaboration and
academic or institutional development, excellent communication skills and a commitment to
teamwork, in particular involvement in the development of BoCAS and cooperation with colleagues
from other faculties, organizations and museums are expected. Further expected is teaching
experience of undergraduates and graduates as well as the willingness to develop new courses of
study at BA and MA level. Success in third-party funding, and willingness to establish collaborative
research projects are desired.
