Vigilantly and absolutely avoid the publishing company AuthorHouse! Even though I have had recurrent problems with this company, I have stayed with them for years, primarily because I am old and didn't want to waste time learning another publishing system. But my patience has its limits. Their major problem has been a lack of inhouse intellectual capability. Because of that, they have to depend on outside contractors for every little task. Consequently, you had to deal with a plethora of individuals to the point that the right hand did not know what the left hand was doing. This was the reason why they messed up several of my books. The company has no quality control, and, because of it, the quality of a publication suffers. They did not even bother reading the books. The individuals you deal with are over bureaucratic, not willing to help and even if they could, they lack the intellectual capacity to do so. As for their marketers, who pester you constantly, they don't know how to promote your books. They are only capable of selling their worthless marketing packages. Frankly, they are not even capable of preparing a press release. Making money is the main goal rather than the quality of publication. That was my experience. Nevertheless, still, I stuck with them. After they were sued for defamation and were obliged to pay several hundred thousands of dollars, they have become obsessed with copyright restrictions, to the point of absurdity.

In many developing countries such as Nigeria, there are several authors who are either ignorant of the importance of the editors (publishers) or discountenance their importance in the publishing process. Furthermore, the low capacity of local publishers to publish the avalanche of manuscripts they receive has made many authors to resort to the self-publishing option. The resultant effect of this development is the publication of poor quality books due to non-adherence to quality control measures in book production. Because of the correlation between the character of the book publishing industry in any nation and its development, it is therefore imperative that the quality of the books that are published in terms of content, editorial and production must meet the needs of that nation. In order to produce books that will reflect the cultural beliefs and national aspirations of that country and meet international standards, the desideratum is to have trained and well-equipped publishing personnel handle the various aspects of book production.

With mass-market e-readers available on a large scale, digitization has finally reached book publishing, as well, having already conquered other creative industries like music and press publishing. Traditional definitions of books no longer apply, nor do traditional ways of value creation and capture seem to work. "[Publishing is] not a job anymore.

The main aim of this article is to make the authors aware of predatory publishing. Publishing in predatory journals not only damages or degrades academic reputations but also consumes energy, money and research message. We should therefore ensure that we publish papers in legitimate journals so that they meet the highest standards of scientific integrity.
