Abstract
Abstract Rydberg oxygen atoms were produced in a dc glow discharge by laser excitation of metastable states. Transitions were detected via the optogalvanic effect. The observed states of these Rydberg atoms were found to be significantly perturbed and mixed by the electric field present in the discharge.
