La implementación de los Learning Management System (LMS) en el diseño de los entornos virtuales de aprendizaje, en estas dos últimas décadas, ha sido un gran avance tanto tecnológico como educativo. Su crecimiento ha aumentado a medida que las instituciones educativas han ido incorporando una nueva oferta educativa en sus diseños, así como la mejora de las propias plataformas desde la perspectiva tecnológica.
La incorporación de estos sistemas de gestión (LMS) en la creación de entornos virtuales a distancia no se ciñe exclusivamente a la educación formal, sino que también se han incorporado en el ámbito no formal. Instituciones no educativas también han valorado la implementación de estas plataformas en la formación de sus empleados como complemento formativo dentro de la propia empresa (Oztekin, Kong, & Uval, 2010).

Creating test with numerous items in Moodle can be tedious and less intuitive compared to conventional method. This study aims to determine the Markdown to Moodle performance in easing the test construction process and explain the underlying factors of the behavioral intention to use the application. Markdown to Moodle is an application that allows users to type the bulk of test items directly to the browser and generates .doc, .md and .xml files stored in the local drive. The .xml can be imported to Moodle test bank. This lessens the time of creating test items one at a time in the Moodle. A training and a survey were conducted among teachers with Moodle usage experience. Results from this study allowed the researchers to determine the usability of the application and the users behavioral intention. This highlights the workflow continuity in test construction as a key factor in the usage and performance of the application.

The main purpose of this research is to analyze student behavior using Moodle Data from the elearning system at the GoceDelcev University in Stip. Using the tables from the database, we created temporary tables that contain the number of activities for each user, on specific modules of the system. By determining the role of the users, we made a filtering of results and we got the number of activities for each student. To make the analysis, we used tools forBig Data analysis.After that, we performed clustering of students in several clusters. For this purpose, we usedk-means clustering technique and Elbow method to find the optimal number of clusters.At the end, we performed visualization of the clusters using the Scikit-learn Python library.With the knowledge gained from the analysis, in the future we can improve the learning process.

Una serie di incontri, rivolti agli studenti della prima classe di un Liceo Linguistico di Viareggio, finalizzati a reinventare la didattica del latino grazie all’ausilio della gamification - spesso in BYOD -, del cooperative learning e della peer assessment. Dalla scoperta dell’augmented reality alla possibilità di esercitarsi in blended learning, dallo studio delle declinazioni in modalità flipped classroom ai modellini del Colosseo stampati in 3D, l’intento è stato quello di sviluppare nuovi processi cognitivi e nuove competenze capaci di coniugare cultura umanistica e cultura tecnologica. Nell’ottica di un sapere “multicanale e orizzontale”, questa sperimentazione ha consentito una progressiva riflessione sul metodo e un costante aggiustamento del percorso, dimostrando che la didattica di materie apparentemente “morte” come il latino può e deve reinventarsi per adeguarsi agli standard sociali e comunicativi del XXI secolo.

Facebook uses engagement rates as a metric for social media managers and marketers to measure how effectively a page, a post, a comment, a brand, or a topic is able to engage the target audience. Studies have proposed the use of these metrics for other types of online measurements in applications and industries other than social media. This concept paper proposes the use of a modified Facebook engagement rate formula to (i) measure students’ engagement with forum posts using virtual learning environments such as Moodle and (ii) get data from students regarding which topics or posts engage them more in the learning process. While virtual learning environments have their own logs and learning analytics software, and studies have explored the use of Facebook as a discrete and supplementary platform to traditional learning management systems, this paper fills the research gap by applying Facebook’s engagement rate formula to Moodle itself. Applying an existing social media audience engagement formula to an online course may provide instructors and educational institutions valuable feedback on what types of posts, comments, or topics make students interact and engage more in online learning sessions. Such an exercise may lead to new metrics which distance learning institutions could use to calibrate their content with the objective of improving students’ interaction and engagement with instructors, fellow students, and the online course in general. || SUGGESTED CITATION: Magno, L. Trovare strumenti digitali efficaci per una didattica del latino che coinvolga le nuove tecnologie non è un’impresa semplice. In assenza di un sistema funzionante di valutazione qualitativa delle risorse, questo contributo offre un’analisi basata su quattro criteri: il rapporto con il modello teorico SAMR (Puentedura, 2016), i progressi nell’apprendimento, il feedback degli studenti e la facilità di costruire sinergie funzionali con altri strumenti.
L’analisi fa riferimento ai risultati ottenuti in seguito alla sperimentazione di un percorso pensato per ridefinire la didattica del latino nel liceo linguistico e strutturato per unità di apprendimento progettate per lo sviluppo di competenze anche trasversali.

Despite all the studies conducted on second/foreign language (L2) vocabulary, most L2 learners suffer from deficiency in their vocabulary development and retention. One of the probable reasons behind this specifically in Iranian EFL context is that less implementation of new technologies such as CALL and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). Because the use of new language learning technologies is likely related to learner variables and personality differences, the present study attempted to examine the use of Moodle as an effective type of VLE on 90 introverted vs. extroverted EFL learners' vocabulary development and retention. Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), researcher-made and validated vocabulary tests used as pretest, posttest, and delayed posttest were employed for data collection. The application of two-way ANOVA indicated that Moodle had a significant positive effect on L2 vocabulary development and retention. However, introversion/extroversion personality factor could not moderate the effect of Moodle on vocabulary learning and retention. The interaction effect of the two independent variables on vocabulary development and retention was not significant as well. Study findings suggest that EFL practitioners and learners can employ Moodle as an effective VLE for L2 vocabulary achievement and retention.

Il contributo documenta un’esperienza di didattica del latino progettata come risposta allo scarso rilievo dato alla materia dalla nuova configurazione del liceo linguistico. La programmazione didattica, strutturata per specifiche competenze, ha avuto come obiettivo quello di fornire agli studenti non solo conoscenze disciplinari ma anche abilità digitali e metacognitive. Grazie all’impiego di un insieme di metodi e di strumenti in grado di offrire un approccio innovativo allo studio della materia, sono state realizzate attività di immersive education (VR, AR), peer e self assessment, gamification, digital storytelling e authentic learning, coordinate all’interno di una cornice pedagogica di carattere induttivo-contestuale. L’esperienza ha verificato la fattibilità di un percorso alternativo dimostrando il potenziale del blended learning in un’area disciplinare, tutto sommato, ancora lontana dall’innovazione.

This paper focuses on an educational experience of Latin which encompasses both disciplinary knowledge and digital skills. The experience was designed to cope with the drastic cuts that have targeted the subject in the framework of the new “liceo linguistico” (Italian high school specializing in modern languages). The educational programme, structured to develop specific skills, used a wide set of methods and tools aimed at an innovative approach to Latin study. Authentic learning, immersive education (VR, AR), peer and self-assessment, gamification and digital storytelling were leveraged within the pedagogical framework of the inductive-contextual method. The experience verified the feasibility of a didactic approach far from the traditional one, demonstrating the potential of blended learning in a disciplinary area that is still far from innovation.

Etude analytique d'un cours de FLE à distance (FOAD, dispositif d'enseignement-apprentissage hybryde) supporté par la Plateforme Moodle: les effets des différents types d'intervention tutorales sur la motivation des apprenants (assiduité, contributions...).
Quelles difficultés rencontrent les apprenants pour s’approprier une plateforme d'enseignement-apprentissage et tirer profit d’un cours à distance? Qu’est-ce qui change au niveau des pratiques d’apprentissage et d’enseignement ? Comment les apprenants perçoivent-ils les tuteurs et la « distance » ? Quelles modifications apparaissent dans les interactions humaines? Quelles sont les attentes des étudiants envers les tuteurs et leurs rôles ? Quelles sont les spécificités de leurs fonctions en présentiel / distanciel ? Quels sont les prérequis pour développer des pratiques efficaces ? Relèvent-ils plutôt des connaissances linguistiques, de l’informatique ou de la psychologie ? Quelles stratégies compensent davantage le sentiment d’isolement des apprenants et lesquelles favorisent le plus les interactions et la participation de ces apprenants ? Puisque les interactions en français constituent un objectif en soi, quelles interventions (réponses) ou évaluations le tuteur doit-il faire? Comment le tutorat peut-il assurer l’efficacité d’un cours hébergé sur une plateforme ? Quels rôles et quelles stratégies les tuteurs doivent-ils mettre en place pour gérer les interactions?
Après trois ans d’évolution d’un cours de FLE à distance, nous nous heurtons aux mêmes difficultés : malgré les nombreuses demandes d’inscriptions au cours, le taux d’abandon élevé est aussi démoralisant pour les tuteurs que pour l’institution, les interactions ne sont pas abondantes et le nombre de contributions sur la plateforme est très réduit. Il m’a donc paru intéressant d’analyser les stratégies des tuteurs, leur influence sur les interactions, et l’incidence de celles-ci sur la motivation des apprenants.

Racconto di un percorso formativo che ha visto l’applicazione delle tecnologie educative in un ambito generalmente lontano dall’innovazione, "Idee per una nuova didattica del latino nel liceo linguistico" è suddivisa in due parti.
La prima, teorica, descrive la pedagogia di riferimento, il perché della scelta di una didattica blended e per competenze, le metodologie e gli strumenti impiegati. La seconda, più pratica, propone un curriculum di lingua e letteratura latina strutturato in venti Unità di Apprendimento (Uda) basate sull'impiego del digitale e supportate da un ambiente di e-learning realizzato con Moodle. Il percorso ha coinvolto una classe del biennio del liceo linguistico "G. Carducci" di Viareggio.

Diante do crescente número de cursos a distância fazem-se necessários profissionais
capacitados para atuarem nesta nova modalidade de ensino. Assim, este trabalho de conclusão
apresenta proposta de curso que visa capacitar profissionais para atuarem no Ambiente
Virtual de Aprendizagem Moodle, versão 2.2, de forma colaborativa. Para tanto, o curso de
extensão “Moodle 2.2: Desenvolvendo um espaço de aprendizagem colaborativacolaborativa”
fará parte das ações do Centro de Educação a Distância da Universidade de Brasília (CEADUnB),
com carga horária de 120 horas a serem ofertadas em 12 semanas na modalidade a
distância. Durante as sete unidades temáticas (Ambientação em EaD; O que é a
Aprendizagem Colaborativa?; Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem; Moodle - Modular
Object Oriented Dynamic Learning; Pensando o Meu Curso Colaborativo: Arquivo, Página,
Pasta, Rótulo e URL; Pensando o Meu Curso Colaborativo: Fórum, Tarefa, Wiki,
Questionário e Glossário; e Construindo o Meu Curso Colaborativo), os alunos poderão
aprender a teoria sobre a Aprendizagem Colaborativa e o Ambiente Virtual Moodle, além de
utilizar no ambiente de prática as ferramentas disponíveis nessa Plataforma. No decorrer do
curso, as atividades avaliativas terão como objetivo desenvolver o pensamento crítico a
respeito da construção de cursos a distância, bem como sua concepção pedagógica. Como
atividade de conclusão os discentes deverão conceber e construir um curso ofertado na
modalidade de ensino a distância.

This study aimed to identify key factors that have an influence on learners' satisfaction with the e-learning system at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, using a modified, updated DeLone and McLean (D&M) (2003) model. The research model was tested against regression analysis using a sample of 153 enrolled students. The study found that system quality, instructor quality, and service quality had a significant positive effect on learners' satisfaction, with service quality being the strongest predictor. However, course quality was found to have no significant effect on learners' satisfaction with the e-learning system. The findings from this study will help institutions that are planning or implementing e-learning systems to enhance learners' satisfaction and, consequently, increase systems success. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Il contributo illustra un'esperienza di didattica del latino che è intervenuta sullo scarso rilievo dato alla materia con la nuova configurazione del liceo linguistico, cercando di fornire agli studenti non solo conoscenze disciplinari ma anche abilità digitali e metacognitive da poter spendere nei nuovi contesti lavorativi creatisi in seguito alla rivoluzione digitale. La programmazione didattica, strutturata per sviluppare specifiche competenze, ha previsto l'impiego di un insieme di metodi e strumenti finalizzato a un approccio innovativo allo studio del latino. Sono state realizzate attività di immersive education (VR, AR), di peer assessment, di gamification e di digital storytelling, all’interno di una cornice pedagogica che non ha mai abbandonato gli insegnamenti del metodo induttivo-contestuale. L’esperienza ha quindi verificato la fattibilità di un percorso diverso da quello offerto dalla didattica tradizionale, dimostrando il potenziale della didattica ibrida (blended learning) in un'area disciplinare ritenuta ancora lontana dall'innovazione.

O advento da Internet e da Web, na década de 1990, a par da introdução e desenvolvimento das novas TIC e, por consequência, a emergência da Sociedade da Informação e do Conhecimento, implicaram uma profunda alteração na forma de análise dos processos de ensino-aprendizagem, já não apenas segundo um prisma cognitivista, mas, agora, também social, isto é, segundo a(s) perspetiva(s) construtivista(s). Simultaneamente, torna-se imperativo que, para que possam transformar-se em futuros trabalhadores de sucesso, isto é, trabalhadores de conhecimento (Gates, 1999), os sujeitos aprendentes passem a ser efetivamente educados/preparados para a Sociedade da Informação e do Conhecimento e, tanto quanto possível, através da educação/formação ao longo da vida (Moore e Thompson, 1997; Chute, Thompson e Hancock, 1999). Todavia, de acordo com Jorge Reis Lima e Zélia Capitão, não se deve considerar esta mudança de paradigma como uma revolução mas, antes, uma evolução, ou, mais concretamente ainda, uma “conciliação de perspectivas cognitivas e sociais” (Reis Lima e Capitão, 2003:53). Assim, às instituições de ensino/formação cumprirá a tarefa de preparar os alunos para as novas competências da era digital, promovendo “a aprendizagem dos pilares do conhecimento que sustentarão a sua aprendizagem ao longo da vida” (Reis Lima e Capitão, Ibidem:54), isto é, “aprender a conhecer”, “aprender a fazer”, “aprender a viver em comum”, e “aprender a ser” (Equipa de Missão para a Sociedade da Informação, 1997:39; negritos e sublinhados no original). Para outros, a Internet, ao afirmar-se como uma tecnologia ubíqua, cada vez mais acessível, e de elevado potencial, “vem revolucionando a gestão da informação, o funcionamento do mercado de capitais, as cadeias e redes de valor, o comércio mundial, a relação entre governos e cidadãos, os modos de trabalhar e de comunicar, o entretenimento, o contacto intercultural, os estilos de vida, as noções de tempo e de distância. A grande interrogação actual reside em saber se a Internet poderá também provocar alterações fundamentais nos modos de aprender e de ensinar” (Carneiro, 2002:17-18; destaques no original). Trata-se, portanto, como argumenta Armando Rocha Trindade (2004:10), de reconhecer que “Os requisitos obrigatórios para a eficácia da aprendizagem a ser assim assegurada são: a prévia disponibilidade de materiais educativos ou de formação de alta qualidade pedagógica e didáctica, tanto quanto possível auto-suficientes em termos de conteúdos teóricos e aplicados, bem como a previsão de mecanismos capazes de assegurar, permanentemente, um mínimo de interactividade entre docentes e aprendentes, sempre que quaisquer dificuldades destes possam manifestarse”. Esta questão é também equacionada pelo Eng.º Arnaldo Santos, da PT Inovação, quando considera que, à semelhança da “maioria dos países, a formação a distância em ambientes Internet e Intranet, vulgo e-Learning, apresenta-se como uma alternativa pedagógica em franca expansão. Portugal está a despertar para esta nova realidade. São várias as instituições nacionais do sector público e privado que utilizam o e-Learning como ferramenta ou meio para formar as suas pessoas” (Santos, 2002:26). Fernando Ramos acrescenta também que os sistemas de educação/formação que contemplam componentes não presenciais, “isto é que potenciam a flexibilidade espacial, têm vindo a recorrer às mais variadas tecnologias de comunicação para permitir a interacção entre os intervenientes, nomeadamente entre os professores e os estudantes. Um pouco por todo o mundo, e também em Portugal, se têm implantado sistemas (habitualmente designados como sistemas de ensino a distância), recorrendo às mais diversas tecnologias de telecomunicações, de que os sistemas de educação através de televisão ou os sistemas de tutoria por rádio ou telefone são exemplos bem conhecidos” (Ramos, 2002b:138-139). Ora, o nosso estudo entronca precisamente na análise de um sistema ou plataforma tecnológica de gestão de aprendizagens (Learning Management System - LMS), o MOODLE, procurando-se, deste modo, dar resposta ao reconhecimento de que “urge investigar sobre a utilização real e pedagógica da plataforma” (Carvalho, 2007:27). Por outro lado, não descurando o rol de interrogações de outros investigadores em torno da utilização do MOODLE, nem enveredando pelas visões mais céticas que inclusive pressagiam a sua “morte” (Fernandes, 2008b:134), também nós nos questionamos se esta ferramenta nem sequer vai conseguir transpor “a fase de final de entusiasmo, e tornar-se uma ferramenta de minorias e de usos ocasionais?” (Fernandes, Op. cit.:133).

Online learning started with the emergence of internet technology and has been increasingly used during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it has raised many problems, such as limitations in presenting material (monotonous and uninteresting), building activeness and difficulty creating interaction between lecturers and students and between students. Moreover, online learning is more stressful than regular classroom sessions because students have to study alone. The absence of clearly structured learning steps also makes it difficult for them to focus. Therefore, this research aims to develop an independent online learning module with a structured and systematic flow called Introduce, Connect, Apply, Reflect and Extend (ICARE) based on the Learning Management System (LMS). Furthermore, it determines the eligibility of the module using a Research and Development (R&D) for Education design involving Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. All stages resulted in an eligible online module with an LMS-based ICARE flow in the Learning Media course.

Las Aulas Virtuales se están implementando en la Universidad Nacional de San Luis desde el año 2002, cuando los docentes del profesorado en ciencias de la computación dieron el puntapié inicial en el uso de estas tecnologías, como herramienta de apoyo para la carrera con modalidad semipresencial que se llevaba adelante en esos momentos. Actualmente, el Centro de Informática Educativa de la facultad de Ciencias Físico Matemática y Naturales administra la plataforma “Aulas Virtuales”, que son utilizadas por docentes de todas las facultades de la Universidad Nacional de San Luis, incluyendo a la Escuela Normal Juan Pascual Pringles. Este artículo se enmarca en el proyecto de investigación consolidado “Innovación Educativa y Práctica Reflexiva Mediante Recursos Educativos Abiertos y Herramientas Informáticas Libres”. Nuestro objetivo es observar el uso que actualmente realizan los profesores de la Universidad Nacional de San Luis de los entornos virtuales de enseñanza y aprendizaje, evidenciando los aspectos característicos con respecto a la apropiación de estos entornos, como apoyo a la clase presencial. Mostraremos informes de utilización de la plataforma Moodle, con información de actividades y recursos utilizados por los profesores, ya sean propios de moodle o recursos externos en la web.  Se pretende reflexionar sobre el modo en que se están utilizando las aulas virtuales, en el marco de la educación virtual emergente, relacionada con la educación presencial, y especialmente en organizaciones de educación superior.

Predicting student failure is an important task that can empower educators to counteract the factors that affect student performance. In this paper, a part of the bigger problem of predicting student failure is addressed: predicting the students that do not complete their assignment tasks. For solving this problem, real data collected by our university’s educational platform was used. Because the problem consisted of predicting one of three possible classes (multi-class classification), the appropriate algorithms and methods were selected. Several experiments were carried out to find the best approach for this prediction problem and the used data set. An approach of time segmentation is proposed in order to facilitate the prediction from early on. Methods that address the problems of high dimensionality and imbalanced data were also evaluated. The outcome of each approach is shown and compared in order to select the best performing classification algorithm for the problem at hand.

Students living in the twenty-first century are no longer the people our educational system was
designed to teach. Most of them have spent their entire lives using digital technologies, owning
all the latest sorts of mobile devices, and are not willing to power down when they attend
university. This dissertation reports on a study aimed to explore the relationship between first
and second year students at the Swiss Hotel Management School in Caux, Switzerland, using mobile
technology, and the online learning content made available by teachers on the Moodle platform
of the school. An original app developed by the author and usable on smartphone, iPad and
laptop was given to each participant who recorded quantitative data in real situations. In
addition, focus group interviews were organised to collect qualitative data, discovering feelings
and ideas about five statements related to the topic under study. The findings show that
students make extensive use of mobile technology for private and learning purposes. Their
favourite mobile device remains their smartphone, and there is a marked difference between
first and second year students concerning their second preferred device for learning. Moodle
and the content made available online have been recognised indispensable tools to support
students’ learning. However, participants pointed out several issues related to the lack of
motivation from some teachers to effectively structure their modules in Moodle, the fact that
some students stopped using the iPad due to frustrations, confusions and problems with the
device, and that many students are not advanced users of technology or feel that they are forced
to use it as they would prefer more traditional methods. This document recommends practices
and procedures which could be adopted by the school to improve and harness the online
learning experience of students at SHMS Caux.

Με την εξέλιξη της τεχνολογίας και με τη συνεχώς αυξανόμενη διείσδυσή της στην εκπαίδευση δόθηκαν νέες διαστάσεις στην επιμόρφωση των εκπαιδευτικών. Το παραδοσιακό μοντέλο εκπαίδευσης με τις συναντήσεις του επιμορφωτή με τον εκπαιδευόμενο έχει αρχίσει να εξασθενεί, συνήθως λόγω ύπαρξης περιοριστικών παραγόντων του χώρου και του χρόνου. Έτσι νέες μέθοδοι εκπαίδευσης, βασισμένες στις νέες τεχνολογίες, αρχίζουν να εμπλουτίζουν την εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία, όπως η τηλεκπαίδευση.
Στην εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζεται η Πλατφόρμα Ασύγχρονης Τηλεκπαίδευσης «e-learning ΔΔΕ Δράμας», που είναι ένας «χώρος» διεξαγωγής σεμιναρίων με τη χρήση του Ελεύθερου Λογισμικού Moodle, τα οποία απευθύνονται στους εκπαιδευτικούς της δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης και στους γονείς & κηδεμόνες των μαθητών. Η οργάνωση και η υλοποίηση του «e-learning ΔΔΕ Δράμας» έγινε από το Διευθυντή της Δ.Δ.Ε. Δράμας και την Υπεύθυνη του ΚΕ.ΠΛΗ.ΝΕ.Τ. Ν. Δράμας, σε συνεργασία με το Δημοκρίτειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θράκης (Τμήμα Ηλεκτρολόγων Μηχανικών και Μηχανικών Υπολογιστών) . Μέσω αυτού του χώρου οι εκπαιδευτικοί και οι γονείς & κηδεμόνες των μαθητών μπορούν να παρακολουθούν σεμινάρια που υλοποιούνται με τη μέθοδο της ασύγχρονης ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης.
Επίσης, παρουσιάζεται το σεμινάριο της Εκπαίδευσης Ενηλίκων που παρέχεται στο «e-learning ΔΔΕ Δράμας» και τα αποτελέσματα έρευνας που έγινε με χρήση ερωτηματολογίου ανάμεσα στους εκπαιδευτικούς που συμμετέχουν για την αξιολόγηση της μέχρι στιγμής πορείας του.

In order to establish a distant education system, it is first required to create a virtual learning system environment. A detailed literature search has revealed the existence of some Open-Source systems such as Claroline, Moodle etc. Each system has been investigated in detail and it was found that Moodle is the one closest to the NEU education system. A study has shown that the instructor-learner relationship is poor in existing systems. The Grewptool collaborative editor has been used to create various additional features in order to satisfy the group work requirements. This paper is about a pilot study which has been carried out at the Near East University during the 2004/5 Fall Semester using the Moodle together with Grewptool. The system has been tested with 40 students taking the Java and the Pascal programming courses and the results of the research and a survey are given in the paper.

A disciplina de Anatomia Palpatória (mais acertadamente Anatomia de Superfície) compõe, juntamente com as disciplinas morfológicas e fisiológicas oferecidas aos estudantes de Medicina e de áreas paramédicas, uma importante ferramenta de ensino e pesquisa aos alunos e profissionais que trabalham com pacientes em Institutos ou Clínicas de Reabilitação Física, utilizando mormente a palpação manual e a simples inspeção visual, técnicas essas que exigem um profundo entendimento da Anatomia Humana Básica e dos Sistemas musculoesquelético, cardiovascular e nervoso.

Pragmatic competence is one of the main components of communicative ability in a second language. Recently, a great deal of research has been done regarding the acquisition and teaching of pragmatics of Italian as a foreign language. However, resources and teaching materials dealing with this aspect of the Italian language are still very scarce. This article describes the experiences in creating an Italian online language course, focusing on the tools available through the Moodle e-learning platform, selected to enhance the learning of this ability in language learners. Finally, the study indicates some future directions for the development of an effective language teaching online.

La presenta experiencia se realiza con un grupo de 42
alumnos inscritos en la asignatura “Medición y Evaluación
Psicológica” de la Facultad de Psicología de la UNAM,
utilizando  el  módulo  de  Cuestionario,  de  la  plataforma
educativa  Moodle,  para  la  obtención  del  análisis  de  ítems
de  los  exámenes  parciales  de  la  asignatura.  El  análisis  de
ítems  consistió  en  el  índice  de  discriminación,  el  índice
de  dificultad  y  el  coeficiente  de  discriminación,  cada  uno
de  ellos  dio  información  de  los  ítems  propuestos  para  los
exámenes  (120  reactivos  entre  los  3  exámenes  parciales).
Los  resultados  reflejados  en  la  experiencia  indican  que  en
el primer y segundo examen parcial se tienen más reactivos
de  dificultad  media  y  en  el  tercer  examen  se  tienen  más
reactivos  de  complejidad  medianamente  fácil.  Respecto  al
índice de discriminación se tienen 90 reactivos a conservar
y  el  resto  a  modificar  y  revisar  (30  ítems).  Respecto  al
coeficiente  de  discriminación,  predominan  los  reactivos
a conservarse, pero a la vez hay una proporción similar a
ser descartados en los exámenes parciales uno y dos. Este
ejercicio refleja el apoyo que brinda la plataforma Moodle
en la realización de exámenes por medio del cuestionario,
facilitando la aplicación de exámenes, utilizando diferentes
tipos  de  preguntas,  y  a  la  vez,  se  indica  de  forma  clara
y  sencilla  el  funcionamiento  y  utilidad  de  los  reactivos
propuestos  y  elaborados  por  el  docente.  La  información
obtenida permite la corrección y mejora de los métodos de
evaluación (exámenes parciales, finales, etc.) propuestos en
la asignatura.

Application of Information and Communication Technology Tools
for English Language Teaching in an Omani Context

Abstract
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has become a significant domain of learning in the field of teaching and learning. Recently, educators have shown overwhelming interest in incorporating computers and Internet to improve the effectiveness of education at informal and formal levels of Education. ICT with its numerous tools has immense potential in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) in terms of facilitating the teaching and learning of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.The article summarizes some of the merits and the demerits of the use of ICT tools, and the concept of using ICT in ELT based on the researcher’s review of recent studies. It also highlights the findings from the researcher’s own study on the effectiveness of the application of ICT tools on the EFL (English as Foreign Language) writing performance of Omani EFL learners. The study focuses on effectiveness of Moodle Forum treatment on the quantity of EFL written output in terms of number of words, Language Units and Clauses. The study is considered to be significant in the context of Omani learners being exposed to increased ICT intervention in their social and academic life. A quazi-experimental study was conducted among diploma level students (N=28) at Al Musanna College of Technology under Ministry of Manpower, Oman. The findings and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data revealed that Moodle Forum intervention can have significant impact on the participants’ EFL written output. The study recommends that students and teachers should integrate ICT tools in ELT appropriately.

Com as escolas obrigadas a dar aulas à distância, as plataformas digitais passaram a ser mais utilizadas. Este artigo pretende explanar a importância e apertinência do Ensino à Distância (E@D), uma vez que o ensino presencial de momento não é viável devido à pandemia mundial existente. Apresentamos ainda um conjunto de plataformas educativas digitais que possam ajudar os professores a lecionar as suas aulas à distância e explicitamos a forma como algumas delas são utilizadas na unidade curricular de Metodologias da Investigação nas licenciaturas em Animação Cultural e Comunitária e Educação Básica na Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. O modelo de trabalho educativo - combinação de atividades educativas online síncronas e assíncronas - que aqui é apresentado tem como pressuposto a utilização de várias plataformas digitais de videoconferência e colaboração. A experiência mostra que a ausência de interação direta com o professor não tem sido prejudicial ao processo de ensino e aprendizagem.

The development of E-Learning Portal-Based Learning Management System in Vocational Education. This study aims to: (1) determine the steps the development of e-learning portal-based learning management system (LMS) and (2) produce an e-learning portal-based LMS in vocational high school (SMK). This study is a research and development. Methods adapted from Borg & Gall simplified into three main steps, namely: a preliminary study, development, and testing of products. Product trials conducted in class XI TKJ SMK Negeri 1 Tomoni final product resulting from the development of prototype products LMS LMS is Moodle 9.1.14 which can be accessed from anywhere they have internet access to the URL: http: //elearning.smkn1tomoni. sch.id, along with guide books LMS, LMS flowchart, diagram context LMS and LMS storyboard. Abstrak: Pengembangan Portal E-Learning Berbasis Learning Management System di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan. Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mengetahui langkah-langkah pengembangan portal e-learning berbasis learning management system (LMS) dan (2) menghasilkan produk portal e-learning berbasis LMS di sekolah menengah kejuruan (SMK). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan. Metode diadaptasi dari Borg & Gall yang disederhanakan menjadi tiga langkah utama, yaitu: studi pendahuluan, pengembangan, dan uji coba produk. La plataforma e-learning Moodle es una aplicación web que permite la creación de aulas virtuales para la gestión de cursos en línea. El uso de las aulas virtuales constituye un importante recurso de apoyo a la docencia presencial, semipresencial o en línea, siendo el espacio a través del que el profesorado diseña su docencia, facilita materiales y actividades a sus alumnos, además de comunicarse y realizar evaluaciones. Este curso aborda cuestiones básicas sobre la configuración y gestión de un aula virtual para uso docente.
Por su condición de software libre, Moodle está en constante actualización. En este curso se trabaja con la versión 2.7 de esta plataforma. Sin embargo, si dispones de otra versión 2.x podrás seguir los contenidos en la mayoría de casos. Para participar no se requieren conocimientos previos, ya que se trata de un curso de conocimientos básicos sobre Moodle que permitirá configurar un aula virtual con fines docentes, colgar o enlazar contenidos, configurar actividades y corregirlas, o gestionar la comunicación con los alumnos.

Facebook uses engagement rates as a metric for social media managers and marketers to measure how effectively a page, a post, a comment, a brand, or a topic is able to engage the target audience. Studies have proposed the use of these metrics for other types of online measurements in applications and industries other than social media. This concept paper proposes the use of a modified Facebook engagement rate formula to (i) measure students’ engagement with forum posts using virtual learning environments such as Moodle and (ii) get data from students regarding which topics or posts engage them more in the learning process. En la Universidad de La Habana, durante las últimas décadas ha sido creciente la demanda de aprendizaje del español como lengua extranjera o segunda lengua. Esta situación ha suscitado la reorientación del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje a fin de responder a las necesidades de los estudiantes que arriban al centro.
En este contexto se sitúa el curso Preparatoria de la Facultad de Español para No Hispanohablantes, el cual tiene como finalidad preparar a los estudiantes para su inserción en las Instituciones de Educación Superior del país. Por lo que, el reto que deben vencer no solo radica en aprender la lengua española como vehículo para la comunicación en un nuevo entorno de inmersión lingüística, social y cultural, sino también académica.
Para cumplir con éxito este cometido se propone en este estudio, actividades de comprensión lectora para el Aula Virtual de la facultad que favorezcan el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa de los estudiantes del curso Preparatoria en el ámbito académico.

At the University of Havana, during the last decades the demand for learning Spanish as a foreign language or second language has been growing. This situation has led to the reorientation of the teaching-learning process in order to respond to the needs of the students who arrive at the center.
In this context, the preparatory course of the Faculty of Spanish for Non-Speakers is located, which aims to prepare students for their insertion in the Higher Education Institutions of the country. Therefore, the challenge that must be overcome is not only to learn the Spanish language as a vehicle for communication in a new environment of linguistic, social and cultural immersion, but also academic.
In order to successfully complete this task, we propose reading comprehension activities designed in the Virtual Classroom of the faculty that favors the development of the communicative competence of the students of the Preparatory course in the academic field.

El uso de las plataformas de aprendizaje Moodle viene dándose desde hace más de tres años en diferentes contextos y tipos de formación (presencial, semipresencial, no presencial; formal, no formal; reglada, no reglada; etc.). La experiencia constatada en tres años de su uso en un centro de educación secundaria, en determinadas áreas de ciencias (Física y Química, Biología y Geología, Ciencias de la Naturaleza, etc.) y otras de la rama tecnológica (Tecnología, Informática), como complemento o apoyo a la formación presencial, tanto dentro como fuera del centro, nos llevó a plantearnos que estábamos haciendo mal. ¿Porqué nuestros alumnos acababan hastiados y aburridos tras las clases donde se hacía uso de esta plataforma?, ¿porqué no accedían a ella desde sus casas?, porqué, cuando desde el centro se accedía a la plataforma, los alumnos realizaban con rapidez y siguiendo esquemas repetitivos y mecánicos la realización de las actividades, test, consultas, participación en los foros, etc.
Así mismo, como docentes con un interés formativo continuo, participábamos en la realización de cursos para profesorado donde observábamos el mismo tipo de reacciones, incluso experimentando en nuestras propias carnes, sensaciones de no haber aprendido nada con una formación de este tipo y que solo servían para cubrir el expediente o llenar el currículo con alguna otra acción formativa más.
Nos planteamos que tras tres años de su uso, la plataforma Moodle de nuestro centro se había quedado desfasada, con actividades clásicas, poco innovadoras, que propiciaban la reiteración en el proceso de resolución de las mismas y que no atraían por su contenido a nuestros alumnos. Así mismo, muchos de los recursos referenciados ya no se encontraban disponibles cuando se trataba de acceder a ellos, las fechas de entrega de las actividades no estaban actualizadas, las etiquetas, actividades, recursos, etc. disponibles en los cursos de la plataforma se habían realizado en la mayoría de los casos al inicio de la implantación de la plataforma en el centro y contaban con texto llano y sin recurrir a las nuevas posibilidades que las nuevas versiones de Moodle ofrecen en la actualidad. Las intervenciones en los foros eran escasas o más bien nulas, la comunicación a través del chat y de los correos electrónicos entre los alumnos y los profesores era inexistente. Incluso los perfiles de los propios alumnos, usuarios de esta plataforma, estaban inacabados, incompletos, con poca información acerca de ellos y muchas veces solo figuraba los datos introducidos por los profesores en la matriculación de los mismos.
Constatamos que el abandono y la no actualización y remodelación de nuestra plataforma Moodle nos había llevado a tener una plataforma de aprendizaje aburrida y que en poco o en nada propiciaba el aprendizaje de nuestros alumnos.
Sin olvidar la esencia de que Moodle permite el “open learning” (Race, 1994), es decir, aprendizaje continuo que se caracteriza por el hecho de que es el alumno el que elige el ritmo, el momento y el lugar de su propio aprendizaje (Cotton y Gresty, 2006), nosotros queríamos desde el uso que damos al mismo, motivar su utilización y con ello favorecer un aprendizaje más eficaz en nuestros alumnos que había desaparecido. Se trataba pues de encontrar aquellas actividades, la manera de realizarlas o plantearlas, las estrategias y los recursos, que favoreciesen la motivación hacia el uso de Moodle.
Partimos de la premisa que Moodle debe ser aceptado por los alumnos de ESO como una herramienta en la que su utilidad sea percibida, así como su facilidad de uso, principios estos de la línea de investigación llamada TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) (Davis, F.D., 1989), pero también de aquella que permite explicar la motivación hacia Moodle como una motivación intrínseca o de la búsqueda de la aceptación social, dentro de otra línea de investigación llamada SDT (Self Determination Theory) (Iturbe- Ormaetxe J. y Sánchez, D., 2007). Tampoco podemos olvidar la importancia de evaluar todo el proceso, y por ello no solo debíamos averiguar en que grado afecta al proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de nuestros alumnos en la mejora o no de éste, sino también en el nivel de satisfacción del alumno tras el uso de esta plataforma de aprendizaje (Alonso, A.M., 2010), teniendo en cuenta si esta satisfacción cubre con las necesidades del alumno (Santoveña, C.S.M., 2005).
Y bajo los precedentes de otros estudios realizados con el fin de obtener la opinión (Organista, S.J. y Backhoff, E.E., 2002) o la valoración (Barroso, J. y Cabero, J., 2010) de alumnos universitarios acerca del uso de plataformas tipo Moodle para el apoyo y mejora del aprendizaje, nos adentramos a realizar un estudio con alumnos de educación secundaria con los siguientes objetivos:

Despite all the studies conducted on second/foreign language (L2) vocabulary, most L2 learners suffer from deficiency in their vocabulary development and retention. One of the probable reasons behind this specifically in Iranian EFL context is that less implementation of new technologies such as CALL and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). Because the use of new language learning technologies is likely related to learner variables and personality differences, the present study attempted to examine the use of Moodle as an effective type of VLE on 90 introverted vs. extroverted EFL learners' vocabulary development and retention. Creating test with numerous items in Moodle can be tedious and less intuitive compared to conventional method. This study aims to determine the Markdown-to-Moodle performance in easing the test construction process and explain the underlying factors of the behavioral intention to use the application. Markdown-to-Moodle is an application that allows users to type the bulk of test items directly to the browser and generates *.doc, *.md and *.xml files stored in the local drive. The *.xml can be imported to Moodle test bank. This lessens the time of creating test items one at a time in the Moodle. A training and a survey were conducted among teachers with Moodle usage experience. Results from this study allowed the researchers to determine the usability of the application and the user's behavioral intention. This highlights the workflow continuity in test construction as a key factor in the usage and performance of the application.

The vast majority of Spanish universities have integrated Moodle as a Learning Management System (LMS). This is because, in comparison with other LMS, Moodle is a feasible and more effective means for didactic usage. But there are still few studies on the pedagogical impact of Moodle in teaching. Thus, there are a lot of questions to be answered, for instance: What do students know about the tools provided by Moodle? How are these tools used in their training? Are they satisfied with the use of these tools? Which are the needs of teachers? Is the usage of Moodle related with the improvement of teaching? What is the impact of Moodle in the development of professional competencies? The aim of this paper is to understand, analyze and compare the student's perceptions on the didactic usages of Moodle at university teaching. To this end, this study takes a survey design, with the intentional non-random sample of 178 students from Primary Education degree and Social Education degree of Cuenca Campus in the University of Castilla-La Mancha. For collecting information, an ad hoc questionnaire, consisting of 5 dimensions and 118 variables, has been used. Data reveal the relevance of Moodle in university teaching: the role that it plays to visualize the teaching outline and to exchange information. To sum up, students show a high degree of satisfaction, but identify some limitations related to teacher training and technical issues.
