Product Description

Amazon.com

Dokken: Unchain the Night includes a cluster of music videos augmented by footage of the heavy metal group on tour a couple decades back, all of which comprised the band’s 1986 home video, Unchain the Night. There’s also a handful of extra videos and an entertaining, 2006 interview with Don Dokken and Mick Brown as they recall funny anecdotes from glory days. In fact, almost everything about the 1986 production, including the music performances and videos, is obsessed with touring: the sacrifices, the loneliness, the madness of it all. There are exceptions, such as "Into the Fire," with its wintry, romantic look, but most of what’s here is more like the unsettling "The Hunter," which presents the image of a touring rocker as a lone wolf, looking for sanctuary but dogged and captured by malevolent forces. "Break the Chains" is partially shot in a crazy, long hallway with the band banging into lanterns, but then weirdly includes the super-imposed image of a girl quoting from a letter the song denounces as insincere. "Alone Again" is another of those between-gigs visions of woeful isolation on the road. It all would be wearing if it weren’t for the obvious wit and intelligence of Dokken and Brown, both then and now. New videos include the interesting "Heaven Sent," which has a certain dream logic to it. --Tom Keogh

This is an absolutely fantastic DVD. I highly recommend it for anyone who remotely loves Dokken (or doesn't know them but enjoys '80s music). My mom, sister, and I had a blast last night watching it for the first time. Any of those studio videos you've seen on YouTube, they're included. Nothing is missing. But there's an added bonus for those of you who splurge and get this, instead of relying solely on the Internet. In between every video, there's candid footage shot with the band's Super 8 and mini interviews. There's a whole layer of personality to these guys that you don't see (often) in the music videos. It all comes out on this DVD. I think Don Dokken and Jeff Pilson especially shine in the personality dept. Don always looks so serious when he's singing; behind the scenes, we find out he likes old '60s sitcoms and has a sense of humor about things. In concert, Jeff looks like a crazy rocker without a brain in his head; in person, he's actually quite thoughtful and calm.

Another nice thing about this collection is how you don't have to worry about language. Anytime someone swears in the candid moments, they're "bleeped" out. Even then, there isn't a ton of cussing, so it's not like you're hearing that beeping noise every other minute (unlike TruTv). The only thing I don't like on this entire DVD is the video for "Into the Fire." It's one of those freaky '80s videos with far-too-flexible girls in leather. But I just skip that vid and it's no problem. Other than that, I'm completely satisfied with this collection. It has everything: great music, well-executed camera work, funny dialogue, and (if you're in the mindset of my sisters) cute guys to shriek over. So why are you still sitting here reading this? Haven't I convinced you? Go order this so you can be Rokken with Dokken!

This is an awesome video! The videos are great and bring back alot of memories, but the real treat here is the interviews with Don Dokken and Mick Brown. They are hilarious! Both talk freely about the wild times during Dokken's heyday. They hold nothing back and both speak freely with drinks in hand. I found myself laughing aloud at some of the great stories by the two of them. Mick Brown in particular can barely contain himself at points. You can tell they are having a blast reliving the glory days of Dokken. Those interviews are worth the price alone of this video, but seeing all of Dokken's old videos is pretty cool as well. Some come off as really lame with time passed, but a number of them do hold up well today. The music, however, always holds up. Dokken made alot of great music in their time that still sounds great today. Unfortunately, they weren't able to keep it together as long as they should have in their all too brief career. But if you want to revisit the glory days of Dokken, buy this video. You won't be disappointed.

Okay, I have to admit, I was a late teen when MTV came on the scene, and I remember seeing some of the videos on this DVD then. But to have them on one DVD, is nice. If you are a Dokken fan, like I am it's "Heaven Sent".

The best part of this DVD, is the added interviews with Don and Wild Mick, and the videos that did not make regular MTV rotation. Without giving too much away, they tell their recollections of making the particular videos, and some of the stories will make you laugh or cry.

Being a big fan of Dokken and hair metal, this was a definite buy.I purchased it at a great price,of course at Amazon. If you love Dokken, you know the tunes and the videos. "Alone Again","In My Dreams","Just Got Lucky","Dream Warriors" are all here plus the other great songs.Great commentary on the four songs by Don & Mick. Glad to see Mick still with Dokken and the new album coming out this year. Too bad Lynch couldn't get in good graces, but what the heck.Highly recommended to the die hard Dokken fans and just hair metal lovers out there.

A must have for Dokken fans. The best thing about it, besides all the videos, is an interview with Don Dokken (vocalist, some guitars) and Mick Brown (drummer) in which they share stories about the 80s, touring, etc. They also talk about what went on behind the scenes of various videos. If you love hard rock, especially the mid to late 80s-BUY THIS!!!

I expected more live concert footage than videos but it will do for the price.

    よくあるパターンですが
    前のインタビューの音声とミュージックビデオの先頭の映像、ミュージックビデオの最後の音声と次のインタビューの映像が
    数秒重なって編集されています。
    Alone Again に至ってはインタビュー音声+曲の先頭がフェードイン編集です。
    ミュージックビデオ収集者にとってはちょっと辛いです。
    Unchain The Night が無いなどファンとしてもちょっと物足らない感じでした。
