A HEART THAT YEARNS FOR MILORD

Chen Xing has finally arrived in Chang’an and is to meet the Great Chanyu, a man rumored to be so beautiful and adorned in finery that he’s beset by marriage proposals. So why is Xiang Shu sitting on the Great Chanyu’s throne?

    Second volume plunges Chen Xing in the middle of political machinations and palace intrigue of Chang’an. All he wants is to locate the headquarters of the last exorcists, but he accidentally stumbles into a den of conspirators. They have a magical artifact full of malice that causes him and Xiang Shu, his reluctant protector, great trouble.

    There are some comical moments as well. Chen Xing is pursued left and right by people wanting to marry him, and they’re all men. Even the emperor is determined to marry him off to a man. Xiang Shu faces a similar predicament, only many times over, because it turns out he’s Great Chanyu, a man of great importance. No wonder he isn’t interested in becoming Chen Xing’s protector. But if you’re looking for a romance, it’s not happening here. At least not yet.

    This wasn’t quite as good as the first volume and the fast pace with which new characters and political issues were brought up was confusing, especially since all characters look exactly the same. But matters got out of Chen Xing’s and Xiang Shu’s hands rather badly towards the end. I have to read on to find out how they clear the situation they find themselves in.

    Don’t get attached to the dog!
