- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2020I’ve been getting into manga recently, and this was one of the first books I noticed when I was browsing for more yaoi-leaning titles. This was my first purchase of Nagabe’s work, and immediately I was sucked in with the artwork and adorable stories. There are some questionable themes in this collection, like drugging someone against their will and large age gaps between two characters, so if this is a concern then this book might not be a good purchase for you.
I wasn't sure what to expect going off of the cover design of what the characters would look like, but I liked the heavy emphasis on each of the different types of animals and making some of their true natures show. I loved how the vampire bats sharing food wasn’t shied away from, and size differences between predator and prey were shown with the goat and wolf. I’ve read that this is considered more in the furry category than just anthropomorphic humanoids, but I personally don’t see it as such just because the characters have their animal sides blatantly shown.
I also loved that each story showed a different style of relationships, whether it was just friendship with a touch of something more to explorations in various types of loves the anthropomorphic characters felt. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the peacock/raven story due to it feeling too stalkerish and controlling, and the story with the two professors (griffin and unicorn) felt like flat filler that needed to be fleshed out more. However, I do feel they still add to the collection as a whole since the author is exploring those different types of love and relationships.
I only wish the stories would’ve been longer, maybe even pushed some of the relationships a bit more, but I still enjoyed it and feel it has great re-readability. The art is lovely and the layout made everything easy to follow. Dialogue was perfect and the bubbles never felt like they were in the way of the action. I’d love to see a sequel or continuation to this book and the characters.
This book has made me a new fan of Nagabe and look forward to reading more of their work.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2023Absolutely fantastic book. Read it cover to cover in an evening, as I couldn't bring myself to put it down. Highly reasonable price, great stories, great artwork, and a diverse set of characters that were all easy to enjoy reading. I desperately hope there is a second volume somewhere down the road with continuations of them all, but I will cherish what was given to us in just this one volume alone.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2020It’s good, while some suggestive elements there’s nothing NSFW. From the other reviews I thought there might be, but most of the book is pretty fluffy. I’d say the story between Marley and Colette is my favorite!
SPOILERS HERE DOWN
Huey and Doug has that yandere-like aspect I enjoy, too. The teacher-pupil one feels weird but luckily nothing blatantly nsfw happens so you can interpret it as like more of a paternal relationship than whatever may have been intended. The lines leave things open for both platonic and romantic interpretation though. Other than that one, the relationships are cute and not overly fleshed out so you can make your own headcanons and the bonus scenes are so cute!!!! The art style is really simple and leans more towards the furry side of things than a series like Beastars does (nonhuman hands and feet, although they have plantigrade legs).
CWs for age gap (teacher-pupil), attempted drugging (the first one, has a love potion) and manipulation/yandere-like stuff (HueyxDoug).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2022The collection should have two bits of content warnings:
- All the stories are about gay love.
- A few of the stories are nonconsentual.
A review told me that that this manga is somewhat similar to Beastars: They're furry stories told in a school. However, these stories are set in a school of magic.
Many stories are "boys love" stories, with very young protagonists falling in love and eventually kissing. I'm uncomfortable with this kind of manga; I prefer subjects to be older.
The artwork is more detailed than Beastars' artwork, but the writing is less consistent. Each story is short -- in several cases, too short. At least two stories end with a "reveal" that will lead to a LOT more conflict later. I wish that the writer would have given, even in the background, what had happened next.
On the other hand, the final story in the collection is a truly beautiful story about a once-a-year meeting between two people of very different worlds, and their similarities and differences.
At best, these are stories of young puppy love, often unrequited. But the stories aren't deep.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2022It was very cute I had no idea it was boys love to be honest it’s very mild with kissing only but it was still very wholesome I bought the book because the cover looked really cool had no idea everyone on it was a boy lol I ended up reading it and giving it to my little sister who’s 11 an absolutely loves anything anthropomorphic She absolutely loved the manga as well. It was her first one. There We’re 8 couple’s/stories in total I also enjoyed the writers end comments and bonus story’s. All were very cute you guys should definitely give it a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars adorable
There are many sweet short stories in this book based around a magical school filled with magical beings. Oh and they are the cutest little love stories- some are more satisfying than others as more than a few have open endings- but they end on a hopeful note which is what makes it so cute.
The art is truly gorgeous and its very easy to follow the story and emotions of each character.
there is not an overarching plot but i am someone who enjoys short stories so that doesn't bother me, its appreciated in fact.
My only complaint was i wish it was longer! i am hoping there is another volume that will continue some of them
