Teogonia: Volume 1 Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 54 ratings

In the harsh region known as the borderlands, humans must fight an endless battle against demi-human creatures that come at them relentlessly, intent on taking their land and their gods.

A young boy named Kai, fighting to defend his village, sustains a life-threatening injury that causes him to regain memories from a past life.

If you’re not a guardian bearer, it’s like you’re playing life on hard mode...

Kai’s newfound knowledge gives him a new sense of the unfair “rule set” that governs the world around him. One thing is clear: For those without a god to serve as their guardian, life is a constant struggle for survival.

Thus begins the epic tale of a young boy’s ascent into a vast world filled with magic, bloodshed, and mystery.

A lot of light novel spend many pages just setting the fantasy world and the characters but here we get action from beginning to end.this is a very good read and very easy to get into.I can hardly wait for the next book.

Most isekai novels have the MC knowing they're no longer in the world he/she started in, pretty much from the beginning of the novel. Kai, the MC in Teogonia, doesn't know he's reincarnated, and can't understand the odd thoughts that occur to him at the age of 13. It doesn't keep him from putting those thoughts to good use, however.

Humans in this world are at the low end of the pecking order, but still have managed to carve out a stretch of territory... albeit it is a territory they are slowly losing due to the disparity in physical power between them and the other tribes of nonhumans. Certain individuals on both sides have access to exceptional physical strength and toughness thanks to the influence of 'land gods' who are effectively guardian spirits.

The story starts slowly, and Kai's lot in his village isn't enviable - he's small, weak, and not terribly well thought of. The village itself is excruciatingly poor, and the prospects for improving are next to nonexistent. Still, Kai's life begins to change when he acquires (or is acquired by) a land god of his own, and the odd thoughts/memories he has helps him to begin to survive and thrive in this harsh environment.

This isn't a lighthearted story - it's grim, and the opportunities for happiness don't come along often. It's still a good story though, so if you're looking for something a step or three from the beaten path, you might enjoy this.
