When I heard that this game got a fan translation for its story, I jumped straight into playing it, as Suda51 is my all time favorite writer/director in the video game hemisphere.
Game plays like shit like its almost impossible to time the grapples and its just not fun at all so I cheated by using cheat codes but honestly the only thing that matters is the story and it delivered. As Suda's first directing role, it seems he already got the jist of his style, and you can see themes of "kill the past" sprinkled throughout, but yeah, it's good. You should check it out if you're a hardcore Suda fan. Now, I gotta wait for that moonlight syndrome translation.

BORN TO BE WILD!!!!
If you thought Kuro 1 was hard this game is even harder, i swear to god i was gonna tear my hair out because this game made me so mad but i still love it. The general combat is mostly the same but a lot of the changes come from balancing and somehow the regular enemies are harder then the bosses sometimes and when you just start this game is even harder, it doesnt get easier until chapter 5 or 6. Overall though i would say the feel of combat is way better, its more fluid and the combos feel more satisfying to pull off. The new throw mechanic is a little jank but i had a lot of use for it.
Not only is the combat hard but they somehow made the open world a challenge. For some reason, if you bump into certain people youll either fall down and lose money or youll fight a really op enemy (especially in early game) that'll just fuck you up. Though they did a lot more for the world, they updated some of the minigames and added some more and the new ones are pretty good. They also added Sotenbori from Yakuza 2! (wow the parallels)! Its a pretty good area, because its pretty much the same as the original, and i like the new coat of pain Kamurocho got. Sub-stories are still just ok, they brought back the gang one as a sequel and that still takes a million years to finish so i dont really care for it.
But you know what story i do care for? The main story, it is extremely good and possibly better than the first. The cutscenes still have that sketchy manga artstyle and it really helps with the Shonen kind of tone they're going for but with the Yakuza style. I love how we get to spend more time with these characters too unlike the first game, which made me grow to love Kuro 2's characters more than 1's. That ending is so good too omg. If you dont like the gameplay for these games power through for the amazing or watch the cutscenes on youtube or smth they are that good.
Is this game better than the first? Maybe, im thinking that its a smidge better.

I know this isn't Yakuza related but I felt like this was a great opportunity to finally check this game out because it has intrigued me for years. Also, it's a very important part of rgg history because it's one of the first games they put out by the RGG moniker. But was it worth it? Yeah, I think so.
The game is just your standard gears-of-war-like cover shooter with the most generic cast filled with cliches up the ass but it's not too bad. Sure, the cast can get annoying sometimes during gameplay, but in cutscenes you actually grow to have a soft spot for them (except Rachel shes a nothing character but maybe that's my fault). Also, it's not like the story is the most complex thing ever, it kind of gives me like it's about the journey, not the destination vibes y'know.
The cover shooter mechanics aren't the craziest thing either, it's just take cover, shoot, get shit from a shop, and upgrade yourself and your partners. I like the trust mechanic because the easiest way to get max trust for these characters is to just pop headshots and melee and it incentivized me to just be popping headshots the whole game which was pretty fun.
I love how this game looks, usually a lot of games like this from around this time had pretty drab colors but this game just pops, and even though Tokyo in this game is just a ripoff of Midgar from FF7 I still like it cus well it's a ripoff of Midgar and I love Midgar. Anyways, BINARY DOMAIN 2 WHEN SEGA.
