I like caring for seniors because, for me, it's meaningful work. I think so few understand how fragile our elders become with time and how much intuitive understanding they need to make them feel safe and loved. My last patient was not communicative, but he and I figured out a kind of sign language together so until the end I knew what he needed. I took care of my mom in my home for six years until she passed away at 97 in 2022. Witnessing up close the ongoing changing needs of an senior is a big job, one that takes patience, kindness and the capacity to pivot.
