It’s safe to say that LL Cool J won’t have Snoop Dogg in his blunt rotation anytime soon.

The 56-year-old rapper stopped by radio station Real 92.3 in Los Angeles to talk to The Cruz Show about his latest album, The Force, which arrived earlier this month.

At the 15:17 mark in the video above, LL was asked about the inspiration behind the album’s Snoop-assisted opening track, “Spirit of Cyrus,” and how it came together.

“I got a call from a high level person in law enforcement and they were telling me, ‘Yo, you need to stay in the house’ and I'm like, ‘Why do I need to stay in the house?’ It was like, ‘Well, there's a manhunt out for this guy named Christopher Dorner and you look exactly like him.’” LL said of the 2013 manhunt.

“And then I went on the internet and I'm looking at this guy and it's like I see his face and he looks just like me,” he noted.

LL said he saw the similarities between their likeness, which was mostly fueled by the countless jokes and memes people were sharing online at the time. He admitted to going “down the rabbit hole” and reading Dorner’s manifesto when he came to a realization.

“I saw the things that he was talking about in terms of the issues he was having with the department, and the Black versus blue and everything he was going through,” he said. “It was like a metaphor or an analogy for what was going on in America. And so I just decided to write the song. I was inspired to write the song from a true place and it just tell it how it went.”

After getting the sonics of the song in place, LL said he knew Snoop was the right person to get on the track when you considered his “dangerous, rough, raw” sounding tracks such as 1995’s “Murder Was the Case.”

“So I called Snoop up. He came down to the studio. ‘What's up, Unc?’ I was like, ‘Yo, let's do it.’ He came down, we did it and there it is,” LL said.

When asked if he ever smokes with Snoop, LL didn’t miss a beat to dismiss the idea.

“Nah, I ain't trying to smoke with Snoop. Snoop ain't gonna have me in the emergency room,” he joked. “I ain't built for that baby.”
