Halle Berry on Helping 16-Year-Old Daughter Through Heartbreak: ‘A Little Part of Me Is Dying’
Berry shares daughter Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubry.
Being a mother is a role that brings unique challenges. For Halle Berry, one of those challenges is helping her daughter navigate heartbreak.
The actress was in New York City this week and in attendance for a roundtable discussion of her latest film, Never Let Go. During the conversation, the 58-year-old was asked by People what the hardest thing is about letting go as a mom.
"She just was in a thing and she's got her heart broken," Berry said of her 16-year-old daughter Nahla. "Never gets easier. It's just holding space knowing that this is all part of growing, right? We've all been there and knowing that in six months, she's going to forget about it."
The self-proclaimed “mama bear” continued, "But in this moment, it's the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup and she feels like she's dying. A little part of me is dying and I can't tell her that because she'll just say, 'Mom, you don't understand.'"
"So I just have to say, 'Yeah, this sucks, right? This sucks balls.' I know, and you're hurt. And I know I just have to sit in it with her and that's really hard to do," she added.
The Oscar-winning actress shares Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubry and her 10-year-old son Maceo with ex Oliver Martinez.
As far as her current love life is concerned, Berry recently told Marie Claire for their Changemakers Issue that she “was madly in love” with her partner Van Hunt before they had sex.
"It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex. That has never happened to me, ever," Berry shared. "Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical."
