Cultural heritage training

Short courses providing training in key skills

Our programme of courses and workshops offers expert training for professionals in the historic environment, archaeology, museums and heritage sectors. We provide interdisciplinary professional development covering planning and design, project management, curation and research including cutting-edge scientific techniques, tailored towards current developments in policy and legal frameworks.

Please note: This professional course programme, which has now been running successfully for over 40 years, was previously known as 'Courses and Workshops in the Historic Environment'. Its profile has recently been updated to embrace a broader definition of cultural heritage.

Expert tuition for professionals

Our courses:

  • Have been developed with leading heritage practices and are delivered by experts in their field.
  • Offer networking opportunities for professionals and aspiring professionals.
  • Make innovative research at Oxford and other leading institutions relevant to practical needs.
  • Provide training in key archaeological and historic building conservation, planning, and related skills, firmly grounded in everyday professional working experience.
  • Are widening in scope to include UK and international themes in cultural heritage.

The certificates we issue to participants are valid as CPD documentation and may be used for evidencing career progression such as in membership applications to CIfA (for archaeologists) or IHBC (for historic building specialists). Courses are linked to National Occupational Standards for the sector.
