SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2

GROWING UP, MY FAMILY ALWAYS opened gifts on Christmas Eve. We kids would go into a back bedroom and wait . . . and wait. of bells, followed by Dad’s hearty voice: “Santa has come!” We could always tell the “Santa” gifts. No tags were needed. Under the tree sat our fulfilled hopes: a shiny bicycle, a new baby doll, or a fun bake-oven. The anticipation was over. We felt happy and satisfied.
