INTRODUCTION TO THE 7 CHURCHES OF REVELATION
In order to gain some context to the letter sent to the seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation, you need to begin in Chapter 1. This is the first article in a series on this topic. As the book opens you notice in verse 1 that this is “The Revelation of Jesus Christ”. Revelation literally means “The unveiling.” The term is ambiguous in the Greek and can have a double meaning: The unveiling of Jesus Christ, the triumphant, everlasting Redeemer, and also of Jesus unveiling what must soon take place to the church.
THE GLORIFIED JESUS REVEALED
This revelation of Jesus is different to how the Gospels revealed Him through His birth, life, and ministry on earth. In Revelation, it’s an unveiling of the Almighty Jesus who is eternal and who comes to redeem His people. He judges their works and the rebellion of the unrighteous, and establishes His kingdom’s rule as He ushers in the new heaven and new earth.
