Two attacks were connected to one predator…
It was Linda Reed’s lunch break, and she decided to eat in her van in the parking lot of her workplace, the Pacific Fair shopping centre in Broadbeach, on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Linda, 21, was a newlywed who had just started building her home with her husband, Robert.
On 13 December 1983, Troy James O’Meara, then 17, put an end to Linda Reed’s life that had only just begun.
O’Meara forced his way into Linda’s Toyota van and made her drive 18 kilometres away to isolated bushland in Gaven.
There, O’Meara raped Linda, before he dragged her from her car and forced her face into a dry creek bed, where she was either smothered or drowned.
