THE GIRL AND THE PUMA

“We will stay in this new world!” they told one another. They separated into groups and went looking for land to claim as their own. One group of settlers started a town by the banks of a great slow-moving river. They built houses of wood and planted crops.

The settlers didn't know that the Querandí Indians had lived in that area for a long time and thought of it as their own! They were not happy about these newcomers turning up and taking their land.

The Spaniards and the Indians began to quarrel and threaten each other!
