Modelling an abandoned steam roller

LOOK OUT of the window next time you are travelling by train, and pay attention to any farms you pass.

Without exception, they will be home to a fine collection of worn-out cars, vans, tractors and diggers. Farmers don’t throw things away and usually have the space to store them until the rust finally returns their metal parts to the ground.

I’m not planning to build an entire rural junkyard, but spotting a rather nice diecast steam roller for a bargain price at a show, I thought it would make the basis for a diorama, the sort of little scene that would add interest to the corner of a model farm.
