My Jewish friend says she does not need a blood sacrifice for forgiveness of sins. When celebrating Yom Kippur, Jews know for certain that their sins (from the past year) are forgiven. But doesn’t the Bible say that only Jesus takes away the sins of the world?

God is outside of time – that is why the Bible (Rev 13:8, NLT). His sacrificial death atones for the sin of all mankind, even though He only died within time. The whole Jewish sacrificial system was put in place to teach mankind about (John 1:29). Hebrews 4:10 explains that (Heb 10:4). Only the blood of Christ can do that. Old Testament saints looked forward to the cross, we look back to the cross, but it is the same blood of the Lamb that makes atonement for sin. That was the message of the early Church to the Jewish believers who followed Christ initially, and to the Gentile believers who came to Christ in great numbers later under the ministry of Paul. (Acts 4:12).
