About this audiobook
“Twisty and complex, with unexpected turns…and characters you really root for.”—Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author
From the author of the Reese’s Book Club Pick and the New York Times bestseller Wrong Place Wrong Time comes a new heart-stopping thriller in which a missing-person case unravels deeper, darker secrets that lead a detective to an impossible moral choice.
Not everyone who is lost should be found…
Twenty-two-year-old Olivia has been missing for one day…and counting. She was last seen on CCTV, entering a dead-end alley. And not coming back out again.
Julia, the detective heading up the search for Olivia, thinks she knows what to expect. A desperate family, a ticking clock, and long hours away from her husband and daughter. But she has no idea just how close to home this case is going to get.
Because the criminal at the heart of the disappearance has something she never expected. His weapon isn’t a gun, or a knife: it’s a secret. Her worst one. And her family's safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia - and must frame somebody else for her murder.
If you find her, you will lose everything. What would you do?
This clever and endlessly surprising thriller is laced with a clever look at family and motherhood, and cements Gillian McAllister as a major talent in the world of suspense and a master of creating ethical dilemmas that show just how murky the distinction between right and wrong can be.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to have a complex plot with great pacing and a good twist. The narration is mostly excellent, except for one character. Some readers found it confusing and hard to follow, especially as an audiobook. Overall, the book is enjoyable and worth reading.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5An interesting ride, but didn’t love it. The premise with the cop’s secret was kind of unbelievable, and the ending wasn’t that satisfying — just seemed to wrap things up way too neatly. Also, confusing at times, with way too many names to keep straight and a timeline designed to mislead the reader. Narration was mostly ok except the male father character who was hard to listen to because of all his whispery wet mouth noises. Thankfully he wasn’t the main character.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book isn't really suspenseful.. its not that it's predictable necessarily.. but also just not very gripping. I spaced out soo much listening and it just didn't have me hooked. :( sorry to say.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a very good book. The twist was not suspected until right before it was revealed. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't stop listening from about half way through!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome! I just love Gillian McAllister's brain! I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I loved this book. The only reason it got 4 instead of 5 is because it was just too happy of an ending. I loved the characters and the way the story came together. Gillian is a master of suspense
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5There are lots of moving parts in this story. They all meet and intersect, and that is the beauty of this book . It also will get you in the morals. HOW FAR would you do for someone you love.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The twists! I liked the narrators also and will listen other books by this author.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was so good. It keep me riveted and it didn't rely on cheap "cheats." There were so many twists and turns. And you care (or at least I did) about the main character (and several others). The characters are all richly nuanced and the narrators did a wonderful job of bringing them to life. I didn't realize until I after I finished the book that it was the same author as another book I thought was amazing. I am now a fan!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great pacing with a fantastic and complex plot. Loved it! Narrators were great.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoy GM’s books. Good twist; the more thrillers you read the better you get at guessing but there was a good twist to this one. Excellent narration!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5So slow. I got to the twist and gave up. Too hard to follow and not worth the slow read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I wouldn't recommend it as an audiobook, too hard to follow with so many characters and the strange timeline - it was hard to follow and to enjoy.
