About this audiobook
From New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice comes a novel about an Iraq war vet seeking redemption and revenge when a fellow Marine is brutally murdered.
John Houck became a Marine to become a hero. But his life changed when he failed to notice an explosive device that ended up maiming his captain, a respected military man who nearly sacrificed himself to save John’s life. Home from Iraq, John pays a visit to his former captain, only to discover the captain has been gruesomely murdered. John pursues a strange man he sees running from the scene, but he discovers that Alex Martin is not the murderer. Alex is, in fact, the former captain’s secret male lover and the killer’s intended next victim.
A gripping story of honor and integrity, of turning failure into victory, Blind Fall is the story of two men, one a Marine, one gay, who must unite to avenge the death of the man they both loved—one as a brother-in-arms, one as a lover—and to survive.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Maybe since this was told through the narration of a main character who is emotionally repressive, guilt ridden, joyless, and suffers from PTSD, it was extremely difficult to form an attachment to any of the characters. The dialogue was kind of clunky and the pace seemed slow to me. Since almost no character had the type of depth that I seek when I read a novel, I did not really like any of them, except Mike, who died within the first 50 pages and John's, sister, Patsy. I was not invested in what they did or their motivations.
The lack of an actual mystery or dramatic suspense undercut the novel's categorization as a psychological thriller. We find out who committed The murder within the first 50 pages and we must figure out the motive. Motive is the least compelling element of real crime because it is so subjective and what is presented is usually just a theory that is retrofitted to close the case. In this story, the motive is kind of weak and just does not fit with the brutality, passion, and personal nature of the murder.
Another critique was that the homophobia browbeats the reader with its heavyhanded depictions. Bigotry is usually expressed much more subtly with microagressions and mistreatment that is intentionally vague and open to interpretation. Most people do not overtly express their prejudices with direct name-calling face to face, people tend to be more cowardly than that.
I found much of the plot to be completely contrived and no reasonable person would behave in this manner. Completing this book was a bit of a slog for me. It was not compelling nor satisfying in its conclusion.
The story was okay but nothing special and ultimately disappointing compared to the author's previous work. I would not reread this, if I could help it. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5One of the perks of working in a bookstore is advance reader copies (ARC). I've been wanting to read a Christopher Rice novel for several years, so when the ARC for Blind Fall came in it caught my eye. The Marine theme was an added plus--as someone who served in the Marines, I'm always attracted to novels that feature Marines. I really enjoyed this novel and its message(s).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you are jealous of this writer, you should be, as this is his fourth books and he is only 29 year-old. In this one, he has mixed Marine Corps nobility with attitude toward gays and acceptance of gays. This is a very unique and interesting mix, that make this book a page turner. The homophobia in this book and how the characters ring truth, as that is similar to the stories I heard from gays and lesbians in real life. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in story about gay in the family, and past wrong of homophobia and new found acceptance. I would watch this writer closely. I like him more than his famous mother.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I wanted to enjoy this book but just couldn't get into it. There is a good story here, however, it is badly written and that is the biggest fault with this book. The writing style did not flow and was so badly structured as to be distracting.
He threw open the front door as if he was about to confront a band of insurgents, as if something about the room might have shifted and given up evidence of Alex's intention in the few minutes he had been gone. His sister had to say his name several times in a row before he could feel his feet again.
This is a paragraph that just doesn't make sense and is just one of many through out the book. It makes the book seem more like a first novel from a new author.
Disappointed. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5“He had no discernable accent, which meant he was from west of the Rockies”. How about, that’s not at all how it works? Everyone has an accent. And people from California and Washington and Oregon have them too, anyone not from there can probably tell if they listen hard. It’s a decent mystery (even if it does have a lot of routine Christopher Rice characters and interactions) and I do admire the author’s ability to write from the point of view of someone who holds entirely opposite views from himself. I do not want ot spoil anything but there is also a surprise connection to one of his other books.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have enjoyed Rice's other novels but I had a hard time withe this one.
